- 53' EXTENDED DECKHOUSE (1983 - 1988)
We took a short trip to Muskegon this weekend and stayed at a new marina development there. Construction was still underway but the facilities were nice and the restaurant there was good, so it was worth the trip.
Saw a nice sunset from the boat
But later that night, after dark around 10pm, I hear a loud crash and the ripping of fiberglass. I run out and look around the marina but don't notice anything. Then I look out the entrance channel and see what looks like a boat right at the fixed red marker in the lake. About 10 minutes later I hear sirens and see a firetruck, 2 ambulances, and other vehicles pull into the parking lot. And probably 5 minutes later a Sheriff's boat is out at that marker looking over the situation. Soon, there are 3 Sheriff's boats and then a Coast Guard boat. After some time, one boat comes in with first responders tending to a person on the deck of the center console boat. Eventually that individual is lifted on a back board to a stretcher and transported to an ambulance. Another load of passengers is brought into the harbor by a second Sheriff's boat. In all it looked like 6 passengers and a dog, with two of them hauled off on stretchers. The CG and Sheriff then took about an hour looking over the wreck and deciding if they would remove it (I assume). But they eventually left for the night around 11:30. Here is a picture I took the next day.
It looks like a 4 Winns and he must have been moving fast to split it open like that. The funny thing is there still has been no news coverage of this at all. It makes me wonder who was aboard and who owns the boat.
