Another Collective 53MY Brain Trust Question -Pilot House Door Dry Rot

All- We just completed renewed the starboard sliding pilot house door- it started out as a simple thing : we were only replacing the rollers... nope; completely stripped the exterior paint and interior varnish and refinished (Thanks Seven for the help on the paint and stripper!). Very pleased with the results. Door is in great shape now. Now doing the port door - completely different story. The thin veneer panel is completely rotted out. My question is can I preserve the quarter-molding when removing the 4 pieces that retain the panel? Or is it the group’s experience that I should expect to replace that quarter molding too?I guess it depends if it breaks when we pry it out... but thought I would ask. Chuck, our friend Lance with a 53 Yacht Fisher Removed and stripped all six doors. He too had numerous holes where water had penetrated and rotted out the area. He dug out the rot filled with epoxy and then put new veneer skin over most of the panels. Truthfully they look better than the new absolutely spectacular finish. If interested I could get him to call you and tell you exactly how he did it.

I have re finished two of my doors, and the 1/4 round molding came out easily because the steel nails were rusted away. very little prying at all. I cheated and painted 1/4' cabinet grade plywood Hatteras off white after sealing with polyester resin. Don't judge me I am on a budget
