After a 3 week journey from Newcastle to the Gold Coast, I can see why these boats are LEGENDS! My son and I went through 9' to 12' seas on on top of 6' to 8' swells and a few very tough inlets. What was supposed to be a 4 day journey turned into 3 weeks due to the terrible floods on the SE Coast. I had to run into port at Yamba over a tricky sand bar and never had any doubts over the boats handling. Had some fuel problems and batteries were an issue. Was stuck in Iluka, a small fishing port in NSW and enjoyed cold beer and good food for 2 weeks, watching dead cows, hay bails, trees etc rushing down a swollen river to the sea. Finally head out and over a tricky sand bar and home safe. Fuel consumption: 50 litres and hour at 12 knots.
Plenty of fish, even though we weren't trying hard.
What a BOAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I pulled into Coffs Harbour there were 3 guys on the boat within an hour telling me about thier Dad's boat, a Hatt 60c, that was imported in the 80's.
Everywhere we go, people admire the Hatteras!

I had heard the hull can be "wet" but no such thing. Dry ride all the way. Very little spray into the cockpit. Only problem is the former owner varnished the teak deck, making the cockpit slippery as hell for fishing. Looks like a sanding job is needed, unless someone can recommend a "non-slip" finish?

Your boat has a custom spray/lift rail that was done right. Makes the boat ride a bit higher out of the water and really knocks down the spray. Strip that varnish off the teak and either oil it or leave it bare and keep it clean. The purpose of the teak is to give you good grip when the deck gets wet.

Thanks for the advice. I have to repair the lift rails. The guys at Sailfish Marina, Stuart Fl. Broke them, not once, but twice! With no apology or re-compense. As for "lift" she rides steady and I would call the ride a displacement of 15.5 knot max rather than a planing hull. Comfortable, dry & economical for what she is. Plus the BEST part...I can work on the engines as they are tn's. No need for computer techs on these motors! Best eng room ever seen.

At last some Qld Hat lovers. We brought my 1984 Hat 64 (56MY extended cockpit ) to Brisbane earlier this year. Preparing for a repower job in the future to make this classic motor yacht a long range quiet economic cruiser , goodby detroits and bring on a pair of gardner 6lxb's

Hi Aquadiction, Did you buy the Hatt from Sunshine Coast called Absolut? I heard it sold and was being refit at Brisbane's Rivergate. Heard there was lots to do re the engines etc.

Hope all has gone well with your project. Would be interesting to see how a Gardner powered Hatt travels.
