Storm is about 350 miles away from us, and it is gusting 40+ here. 25 sustained. Lots of gusts.

Hi All,

George, I brought up a map of morehead city and I was wondering exactly where you're located?

George, about the same over here at Spooners Creek Marina.. We are all tucked in. Notice a few sail boats on the hook.

Just this evening, things laid back down to normal here in Miami. It's been challenging climbing on/off this boat without the stairs given the extra high tides with the full moon. Earlier tonight, my friend Margaret posted a video of the ocean coming over the beach in Fort Lauderdale and intruding upon A1A, right where the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show is going on, where the winds were still wicked. Even though this storm was "way offshore" from us, the winds were amazing through mid day today down here in Miami. And ironically, only about a handful of boats, if that, on my pier prepared for it. As a result, I saw a fair share of ripped canvas, missing rubrail, etc. Another friend out on a mooring ball came home at5PM on Thursday to tend to his boat, before the bad stuff was supposed to be here, got out there, and said to himself, screw this, realizing that by the time he would wake up to something having given up that he's be well under the bridge and on the rocks....he gathered up his important stuff and went back to the marina office. His boat survived just fine, but his Droid phone in his pocket did not as he dingh'ied in from the mooring field.

A realization from someone who has not lived here all her life - even though that storm is "way over there", don't take it for granted that it will be just another day in the park. These past few days were nasty...just not as "wet" as other storms that came directly upon us. As usual...over preparing rather than under preparing has paid off.

Supposed to be 66° tonight....loving every moment of that. I guess that Miami's silver lining in this one. Can I put my storm lines and fenders away now, until next year? I already turned off the AC and opened the windows and hatches.

Looks like she is going to landfall in AC now.

It is already over the piers by about a foot at high tide in lynhaven inlet Virginia Beach on sun morning. I am thinking of you farther north and whish you all the best. Stay safe.

Weather channel is talking about 20- 25 ft waves on the Great Lakes from this hurricane. I sure most of our Hatteras owners up there have hauled for the winter already. Heading back down to check on my lines again .

Who's up in Jersey? Where's Saltshaker??

Hi All,

Ang,

SO glad to hear you made it thru unscathed and great advice about not being complacent and being prepared for any possible outcome.

TO ALL in the direct path and to those of us in southern New England on the cutting edge, I wish you the best of luck and hope everyone and their vessels come thru this safely.

Who's up in Jersey? Where's Saltshaker??

I tried to call Jack and just got voicemail. He may be moving the boat. Lets hope the surge numbers are overinflated!!

Just got home and ate for the first time today. Been at the boat since yesterday trying to prepare for this and my stomach is in knots. I was amazed how many boats have done nothing. There was a group of us there who did the best we can to get each other's boats ready. Now it's in God's hands. I hope they're wrong on this one.

Just left the Marina. Two hours till high tide and the water is almost over the dock. pictures arent great but you get the idea

At 6:00 am in lynhaven inlet Va, Beach. The tide was over the piers blowing about 30 from the north with 3 hours to high tide. The tides seem to be slightly above the 2-4 foot surge prediction 4+ and the water got here sooner than expected. Just heard the bounty was off nc. And in trouble with crew aboard and coast guard on scene. Scarry.

We are waiting for the tide to run out a bit so we can get off the boat now, look what we woke up too. Sandy-5_web_8-50am.webpSandy-2_web_8-50am.webpSandy-4_web_8-50am.webp
