The center of the earth is around 12,500 degrees not several million. How come little old Brian knows this and Al Gore the self proclaimed guru of global warming who's made millions in the process doesn't?

Because he's an idiot and jumped on a bandwagon because some entertainer(s) convinced him it was a good cause and his "stature" would convince others. Obviously it worked. But it's more about "I want to look cool to Hollywood" than it has anything to do with science. Though the fact that it fooled the Nobel folks is a bit troubling. Then again... ;)

I think PJ O'Rourke summed it up pretty neatly

"Politics is the attempt to achieve power and prestige without merit."

And politics is more or less what the "Climate Change Business" has become.

It's the new "Y2K." People can make a lot of money by scaring folks into believing the unbelievable.

Sadly, I've learned as I've gotten older that one has to look at the aspect of "Who stands to make money on this" for virtually anything. ANY data can be manipulated to represent whatever someone wants represented...or misrepresented.

Here's an example from my own personal experience - sorry for prolonging this but I can't resist and it illustrates the point. Well known maker of ignition wires said his wires can add up to 25HP on a small block chevy and he provides the dyno chart to prove it. What he leaves out is the fact that they hunted around until they found a car with wires in poor shape so the engine was misfiring under full load and dynoed it. Put in their new wires and VIOLA, 25 more HP right there on the dyno. Yep, I personally did the dyno tests. They left out the part where ANY new wires would have done the same thing and the part where their wires would have done absolutely nothing if the oem wires on the car were in good condition.

They didn't LIE, exactly, they just left out some critical info... like the climate change folks want you to forget that the earth used to be a lot warmer and that much of what is now the US was under water. Because if everyone understands that, it becomes obvious that we weren't around to cause "global warming" before...just as we didn't cause the extinction of 90+% of all the creatures that have lived on the planet. These loons have an "agenda" to somehow convince everyone that the earth can be held in its present state forever. This, of course, is not possible, whether we're on the planet or not.

(I have a bejellion of similar stories re "performance parts" for cars.)

Great Story Mike! I saw interesting study that read earth would be 4 to 6 degrees warmer if we Stopped polluting as particulates in air from factory, car, truck, etc emissions are flying high in atmosphere and reflecting sunlight back into space. All said and done, the industrial revolution must be having some kind of impact on the environment. What it is we will probably never know due to politics mucking up the results coupled with lack of reliably modeling the earth and what man made effects have on it.

Mike, if the auto parts business fails the salesman in your story would fit in well at the New York Times.

The times has a habit of presinting the numbers to suite their story line, and sometimes it has been the al gore loser.

He'd have plenty of competition - Here's another one...at the pits at an NHRA meet in Memphis a famous team is pouring a famous additive (one of their sponsors) into the engine during the break between rounds when the engine is being refreshed. BUT...the famous additive is not what is actually in the bottle. What's in the bottle was just another quart of the regular Valvoline oil they used. But to the cameras, observers, etc, it's "proof" that the additive is great stuff because it's used by the famous race team. One of the lackey's behind the scene jobs was to dump the additive out of the additive bottles and pour in the Valvoline "for public viewing."

I've got a lot more... ;)

I don't know if it's all BS for sure most of it is. What I don't get is how the high priest of global warming is so un prepared. A good con man knows the topic.

To say nothing of the cool $100M he has reaped from promoting possibly the biggest scam of all time. Figures show that over $70B (yes, billion) has been spent 'proving' that GW exists. Give me $70B and I can prove anything exists.

The years of emails and documents recently released by hackers shows how wildly this crowd and reported fraudulent data and promoted lies, plus prevent publication of any papers (this is a very big deal in the academic and scientific community), opposed to GW.

Sarah Palin is a such a piker by comparison in terms of funds from self promotion (ref her name to stir things up, heh, heh)...
