  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
42' LRC - Mark II (1980 - 1985)
Three knob controller

Problem:

Select start, blower should cut in but does not

Condition:
  • Blower supports salon and aft cabin with two independent controllers.
  • When I select START, blower should initiate, but does not
  • When i select RUN, pump is activated as per normal.
What are some of the things that could cause the blower to become inoperable.

Thanks in advance for any advice

Blower may have come to the end of its life.

Check blower is getting AC when turned to fan. If it is then a new blower is needed. Company below has a wide range and excellent customer service.

Personally I ve never seen a blower failing silently. Either the bearings start going and they get noisy or they hum or buzz getting hit not turning.

As Scott said, get for voltage at the blower.

If you have voltage then replace the control. Do yourself a favor and convert to electronic. Not expensive and so much better

On the back of the 3 knob controller, slip on wire crimps are used to make the wire connects. I have found these slip off, burn up and just fall apart.
Once, out of many many failures, I found a (supposed) sudden rheostat (fan speed) failure.
A couple of times the control switch it self was just old and crumbling apart.

These switch panels have some exposed connects. Please make sure the correct power breakers are off when removing the panel from the wall.

Thank you all very much for your comments. We are back in the US now from the Bahamas and have someone that is coming to look at it today. 5 months aboard has created a fairly long list of things that need attention so I think I will farm tis one out.

Cheers

Jim
