If you pull the output line off the pump and you’re not getting a small geyser (with the pump off) your install has been altered from the factory. I’ve rolled and planed as much as anyone and never had to worry about any of this. Raising pumps to fix a hose problem is wrong, IMO.

Sometimes you don’t have much of a choice if the hose has to go up over a stringer. As long as the pump remains below WL it will be fine

One thing I don’t like about the setup in the picture is having the strainer mounted horizontally to the sea cock. That s what s creating the high point. It would be better to have it mounted vertically close to the sea cock which would likely eliminate the high point.
 
Certainly better than siphoning gas or diesel.

Done that more than I am willing to admit. The operation itself wasn't too bad, it was the burping gas for days that got me.
 
I had similar issue with a Scott A/C pump with bronze impeller last season. I replaced the impeller and seal and haven't lost prime since.

One of the previous owners had installed a bleed line. I used that for a while until I got tired of having to do that every trip.
