I have two units that leak down in two months. My AC tech is taking one last try at trying to locate the leak with a flourescent dye, but if that is not successful he is going to add a stop leak. He has been in the business a long time and is well respected here but has never used a stop leak out of fear of causing damage. I'll be his guinea pig.

I just searched the forums and see most have had good success, but the last post was several years back. Can anyone provide more curent experience with the freon stop leaks? Any prefered products?

I used HVACR stop leak in my stateroom units several years ago and have had no leaks since. This product is good for very minor, slow leaks - mine would leak over about 10 months to the point where the units would not heat. Hope this helps.

I have several electronic detectors have tried dye and I still find joy soap mix in a spray bottle works best for small leaks. 90% of the time small leaks are at a valve of fitting.

My air conditioning service rep. stopped slow leaks in one of my units by cutting the ends off the lines and re flaring the ends. There were very slow leaks there and that fixed it!
