  1. CAPTAIN
Hatteras Model
58' TRIPLE CABIN (1970 - 1976)
Since I feel that I can relate to the class clowns here (hence the "black sheep")
I have a question about Lake barkley and Kentucky Lake-- My 58 is leaving Mobile this week and headed for Chicago for a refit. I plan on staying in the KY- Tenn. area for the winter. Perhaps I can knock out 2-3000 little jobs before continuing north. Can anyone recomend a marina there that has a travelift capable of handling my boat?? Appreciate it guys, and Pappy Boyington sends his regards from the other side! Anyone who wants to ride for free from Mobile to Demopolis Al. and all points north is welcomed. Bring dirty clothes!! Thanks. ws

Chicago.............cool.

All my relatives, aunts, uncles, cousins ect..... are in Chicago.

One of my cousins has a 40' Marine trader ( if I remember right ) docked there right off Lake Drive. She was telling me that even "independants" such as myself have to pay union dues and better not be caught "walking the docks " or doing work there without that card !!

Good luck on the re-fit

No way Paul!! I usually get 2-3 decent sized jobs a year here by word of mouth. The killer is the few yards around here that want a commision on your fee  Everybody has their fingers in the pot.
On another note, did Chris call you about some hardwood knees that we are cutting? Although we are only using chainsaws to ruff cut them they are coming out of oak and hickory trees that some are 36+ inches in dia.plus a little cherry and poplar. SOLID no crack rounds are here too! I wish we had a sawmill here. This stuff is beautiful!! Let me know if you "kneed any!" ws

Hey Wild Biil, Randy is out goofing off or else he is dead, since I know he would not pass up an opportunity for some quality screw off time, especially since it is so close to home! LOL I am sure he knows where you need to take her. We should try to get a band of Pirates to make an inland raid and terrorize the land lubbers! LOL I have not been up the big river, so this may be an interesting trip, just make sure to bring your bow and arrow like they did in the movie. LOL You will be in Bubbaland! I didn't know we had promoted you to wing commander, I thought U-Boat commander was your illustrious title! :D

Hey Bill,
yep we did talk about that. I have no need for any right now though. But if you are just looking to get rid of a couple, maybe I can build some sort of "wild " table with those things.

Thanx

Sign me up there, fellow troublemaker!

Like Chris said, I've been riding my Hatt the past three days instead of whining about everything that's broke or may break on it. Ya'll should have bought this thing when I made the offer. I had so much fun cruising down the river this week-end, I've decided to keep it.

Hey Bill, I'll find you a place to take your 58, and I WILL go with you when you are ready.

Okay Chris, you have to come too! Me and Bill are liable to need someone of your caliber to keep us out of trouble! :D

Ya'll come down now,Y'hear?? Gotta bring yer own air mattress, bucket, and BANJO :D Hopefully the sub will be in Demopolis next weekend and we take over and run to Nosepick Tn. My pal GATOR from Plant City Fl will be along as mate. He will definitely fit right in with Randy-- He "just an old preacher" and a heathen too :) He just LOVES russian girls!
I'll forward details as they come in. Hey Randy, did you get your " RUN OBAMA RUN" bumper sticker on the front of yer 4X4 yet?? Dont ferget ta vote. Then ya get jury duty. Its a CONSPIRACY.
Glad yer bacdk, the sandbox was almost empty!! ws

Hey Bill,

Here is the guy to vote for, and you just got to see his ads! http://vernonrobinson.com/media/twilight.mov
I had jury duty the week of FLIBS, it is a conspiracy, but it was nice to sit with other law abiding citizens, not a felon in the bunch, imagine that! LOL

Hey Chris-- listening to that guy almost makes me want to register. Last time I voted Pat Paulson lost and Dick won. "Lick Dick in '73" was my motto. My mother hated it LOL !! As of these days I cant bitch about any POLITICOS because none of its my fault. However if some candidate promised marine fuel at .50 per gallon I might be persuaded... Do the coast guard rubber boats have machine guns on them out there yet?? ws :)

Matter of fact they do, just in case there is a band of marauding SeaRay owners! LOL

Hey, I watched a guy lock through on a Sea Ray 480 (I think) Sedan Bridge today. It took six people to keep the boat off the wall so the fenders wouldn't get dirty!

Looks like theyre keeping an eye out for Omar when he heads back for those tents. Its too "intense" for me LOL.

Speaking of fenders, I guess I have seen the human meat shield fender used by the SeaRay crowd more than a few times. LOL I mean come on, that is what rub rails and stuff are for. Let's see 100lbs woman, and 20 ton boat, who is gonna win? It was like that video that got posted the other day on the forum showing stupid human tricks around boats! It is amazing that more of them don't check out of the gene pool early. :D

Hey, there were some 200lb women on that Sea Ray, but that didn't help the weight ratio too much. I reckon they could have saved the fenders though!

Give me a Hatt, two fenders, and one line. I'll be ready to lock through in 2 minutes tops.

"Can anyone recomend a marina there that has a travelift capable of handling my boat??"

Green Turtle Bay, Grand Rivers, Ky - on the Cumberland [mile 33] at the canal [mile 25 on the Tennessee]. Check them out at Greenturtlebay.com.

Hey Pappy, you gonna whip us into shape so we'll straigten up and fly right as to not embarrass the purists? It looks like another member already told you about one marina in that part of the woods. I'll pull my charts and look for more if you want. I bought a boat from a big marina near Padookey on the Ohio River, but I'll be damned if I can remember the name of it. I suggested Aqua Yacht Harbor on Pickwick just below the mouth of the Tenn/Tom because I've been there by land and sea, there is easy access, and it's a first class operation. I'd been there many years ago when it was called something else I can't even remember other than Jim Bennet sold Bluewaters there. I went there a while back thinking I may want a Bluewater for river cruising. Then I met Miss Nancy Cay, then came ole' Freebird, then Mamma said git the hell out of my house. Now river cruising is more or less off the menu as I am now wanted in two states and unwanted in another!

One thing you may want to think about if it hasn't crossed your twisted cap rest. The further north you take the sub, the more freezing weather you have to think about. That is of course based on the assumption you will need a surface slip! All jokes aside, I don't have to tell you there will be more work involved in storage while in sub-freezing climates to keep everything liquid on your 58.

Any particular reason why you are doing the bass-ackwards migration for winter?

Thanks BLACK SHEEP !! I need to get the sub within torpedo range. I plan on doing some work at the MASON / DIXON line on the beach and heading up the the land of the free and the home of the brave around April 1. With good luck and timing, I will be ready for a southern exposure in 11/07. Truth be known, that 1000 mile jaunt is wearing thin on me. Padookey is only 6 hours by subchaser for me.I still expect you to go Randy!! My capt in alabamy just called to say he cant make the run this week so it looks like I'm in for the whole SCHLAMEEL !! Need to make it in 7 days. ws

Hey God created the Earth in seven days, but he was a lot younger back then!

I'd love to go with you and help in any way possible. I'll give you a call after 9pm when my free minutes kick in. The fishing trip with GuzBoy is questionable at this point as he is still reelin' from the feelin' of the peelin'. I reckon I could get Pat to pluck my chartplotter off FREEBIRD and overnite it to me. It has all we would need for navigation, and I've got all the paper charts of the TN on Nancy Cay just in case that electronic gizmo craps out. Hell, red right return is all we need on the River, but charts come in handy for other stuff.

I may have enough time to do the whole trip, but you'll have to UPS me to Mobile and then back to Kingston after the deed is done. If it wasn't so dang cold, I'd ride the Hog and strap in onboard and then ride it back home.

Oh well, we'll talk later.

Me and my mate will stop and pick you up in the RHINO CHASER. I have ALL the river books and a nice 192C Garmin. Can you help get us a lift back south to pick up ol'black beauty? FLIBs?? YOU AINT SEEN NOTHIN' YET!! This will be the first annual Hatteras Vulgar Boatmen Club (VBC reg.LLc) cruise. Hold on to yer DONSKIS :D ws

I want to join the VBC, thats right up my alley. PM me with the secret handshake. Collect the dues from Randy and I will reimburse him.
