  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
36' CONVERTIBLE-Series II (1983 - 1987)
Pulled both aftercoolers on my 3208ta's tuesday and this is what they looked like. Don't know when they were last cleaned and not sure what they should look like. took them to rad shop shop for cleaning. I noticed I don't have the big orange rubber gasket. 1985 models.

Be sure the rad shop knows what they are doing. I had a shop flatten every fin in mine by applying too much high pressure wash to them. I spent a couple weeks worth of evenings with a dental explorer reopening them.

Thanks for that. Now i know what to check for when i pick them up. Did yours look that gummed up.

That's what I needed to hear, Thank You...One question... They had no orange rubber gasket..is that
normal? They were full of impeller bits also...

Glad to see that the shop didn't screw them up like mine did. Looks like they did a nice job. Mine were out of a 6v92, so I can't comment on the orange gasket.

You need the orange seal and the gaskets or you will spray oily mist everywhere not to mention a loss of boost.

2 gaskets 7C4196
1 seal 6V5102

double that for two coolers. Be careful with the aluminum ring. If you break it I have a new one

could be the reason I was only getting 2700 rpm?????

probably not unless there was a lot of leakage.

Are they 355 or 375 ?

They are 355 hp. I have one orange gasket and I tried it on the track but looks like that's going to
make putting them back together a little more difficult. the track is damaged and the gasket is not
wery tight. what can I use to hold it in place while I install it? Once I grease the gasket that's going
make handling it very tricky...

I use some adhesive to keep the orange seal in place. It still is a PITA and you need to tighten the bolts evenly or the seal pops out of one of the corners.

I used some adhesive on the orange seal and got one in ok. Willistall the other one this weekend and post some pictures of everything

Yours is salt water cooler and should be done every 3 years and if they have not been done yet you are already Late since Cummins does not use grease on the o-ring. They are easy to do on a B series. Read Tony's tips only a PITA if you wait so now you have something to do this weekend
Also I do them every 3 years and never needed to take them to a shop can of degreaser works very well easier to clean than the one shown here.

I had them done when the engines were about a year or so old. They are due again, more than likely.

Job complete. Not as bad as I thought. Cracked the aluminum case when tightening the last bolt. Continued on and will fire them up this weekend. If no leaks I will wait to change that broken piece when I service them in 4 or 5 years. Thanks for all the help..I will be doing the tranny coolers next. Will send pictures. Rick

even with the crack no leaks. weather to bad here so just ran them in the shed. can't wait for a sea
trial.
