  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
41' DOUBLE CABIN (1962 - 1965)
I am replacing the ACs. Finally getting rid of the orginal split system located in the bilge. Going to replace it with two systems and obviously not putting them in the bilge. Both will be two vent systems with one system venting to the stateroom and salon. The other both vents into the salon.

I am looking for suggestions for location of units and lessons learned

why get rid of the split system?

What is the size and weight of the new units and how will you plumb abnd wire them seems to the determining factors.

The existing system is over 40 years old, parts are near impossible to get, and new splits systems are not that common

Going with Cabin Mate 16,000 BTU systems weighing about 50 lbs pulling 20 amps each

Split systems are quite common in fact more common than self contained ones. The self contained is easier to install for the DIY as no vacuum or charging is needed but each has its good and bad.

If you have the cabin side of one of the old systems working i would be interested as I need one to replace the missing one in my stateroom.
