Hello All,
I was recently introduced to a different type of fire suppression than what we carry here on the ship.
It is basically an anti fire hand grenade that will knock the shit out of a fire fast and you remain at a safe distance. We bought one so far but will be adding 2-3 more because the ship is 300 ft long and we don't want to have to run too far to grab one. I believe they would work excellent on boats of our size.
Here is how they work; You store the unit in an accessible location in it's carrying case with the trigger installed.
If you have a fire, grab it pull the pin and throw as close as you can to the fire and close off the space if possible and get away for a bit. The device ignites a flare inside once the pin is pulled and it starts discharging in 8 seconds so you have to toss it somewhere as there is no turning back once you pull the trigger. Then you go carefully and check if you need to fight remaining hot spots.
I believe we paid about 900 dollars US for ours.
