A 30kt squall caused this collision?

Well when two carnivals collide you get a circus ! Which is what this cattle line has been for years with failed health inspections, Sick passengers , engine and power failures and more

Soon after this happened on Friday I looked at the wind data for Cozumel. 20ish kts gusting below 30. In the videos you can see a few white caps but nothing like a “squall”. Clear skies ...

Somebody screwed up and is trying to blame god :)

No tugs. Carnival mostly docks in Charleston without them. But when strong on-dock winds blowing they do.

As far as I know the ships handling is pretty consistent and during most maneuvers theres no issues.

Was it a bad day? Surge of wind or current? Mechanical? Combination of some of these?

Most importantly there were only a few people hurt and hopefully not seriously. I've never seen a perfect system. Theres always a chance something can go wrong and how bad it goes is the measure of the captain and crew.

Let's see what the investigation finds before we trash the captain and crew.
 
Does the guy who was in that room that had his balcony removed get a free upgrade?
 
That's a lot of paperwork....... As in my business they talking heads are full of crap. Bad driving is bad driving.
 
A wind gust/squall didn't cause that, and I'm still scratching my head as to how the offending ship was following that closely. Maybe the lead ship brake checked him. :D

I actually wondered about that too. Not so much about an upgrade, but how was that cabin habitable after that collision?

Very lucky nobody was killed.
 
Hmmm... after watching that second video, it looks like the lead ship was to blame vs being rear-ended as I initially thought from previous video. It'll be interesting to see who/what was to blame.
 
That ships bell was wrung early. Supposed to be when christened and then when decommissioned.

The Legend was docked. Tied up. Moored. The glory cut it too close and let its stern slide into the bow of Legend.

Yep, I noted that in a follow up post. Hadn't paid much attention to anything beyond the initial video which appeared it was a rear end collision.
 
does mexico use port captains like most US ports? maybe it was his fault
