Also, anyone know which batteries have the highest capacity and will still fit in my stock boxes? QUOTE]

If your 'stock boxes' hold 8D's, then 3 Group24's will sit side by each, per 8D box (not end to end). (see earlier post above)...

The wholesale depot had premade cables already made to fit the 3 batteries together. Made it nice and easy.

"Think" I paid $11 each.

Still don't know where the "8S" came from.... Should of course been 8D.

powermaster makes a group 24 with 900 mca's thats 2700 total more than enough

I honestly don't care about MCAs (Marine CRANKING Amps)...its the Amp-hours rating that matters for me...just about any decent size batter will crank our engiens fine..its the capacity that matters for those of us who like to lay on the hook overnight without having to start the genset...

stormchaser,
that same battery has a reserve capacity of 160 witch totals 480. a good hot 8d is rated at 450 i don't like powermaster i just have easy access to there specs

Perhaps a dumb question - can you mix 4 flooded cells on one bank with 4 AGM's on another bank? Having switched out 4 8D's end of last season, I am thinking about switching over to AGM's for the Port side this year. LaMarche charger was rebuilt so will be using that. If I stick with the flooded cells on the other bank, I will de-tune the charger to act more like a trickle, and not a blast.

AGMs do not like trickle charging. Smart chargers are best for them, or something that turns off altogether (like the Sentry) once target voltage is met.
