  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
58' MOTOR YACHT-Series I (1977 - 1980)
Hi all, since we are looking to move up in size to a Hatteras we are selling our 82 Egg Harbor 40 ft Motoryacht. It is very similar to a 41 DC Hatt, with a little different configuration, full of ribbon striped mahogany, well equipped, and has been in freshwater only since at least 1990. You can view the listing here: https://dubuque.craigslist.org/bod/5703950714.html or contact me, Randy, 563-920-0702 with any questions. Priced to sell at $63,900

She looks very nice and is very much like a 41DC, but problem is, IMO, you have it priced for about the same as a diesel powered 43DC. Not trying to pick on you, but it just is what it is. Best of luck with it though, no sarcasm intended.

No offense taken at all Randy. You have to start somewhere, so I ended up going with what the listing broker suggested based on the condition and comparably equipped boats in our local region. His theory is no one is probably going to travel across several states to buy a $60k boat, so go with what that amount will get you here. It's really tough to find comps since the comparable Eggs are in salt water and in various states of disrepair. There's an early 2000's 33 ft Carver in the slip next to me for sale at twice the price as mine is listed for. To each his own, but look at what something like that will look like when it's 34 years old.
I guess that's what attracts me to older classic boats like the Egg and why my next boat is hopefully a Hatt. Timeless beauty and quality lasting construction. As we all know, anything is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it
Help me get this old girl sold so I can enlist your services helping me bring a Hatt back home! 😀

Deleted due to political correctness.

Well, since you put it that way, those old Egg's are timeless classics, and unlike a Hatteras 41DC or 43DC, you won't be passing yourself every day while doing the loop. How's that? :D

Seriously, there is a lot to be said about pricing against the local market, especially when you're not exactly in a hot spot for boats in that category. Like you said, you have to start somewhere. I would be in the same boat if I put my 41DC on the market.

Glad to delete it ... I so don't care. Didn't realize Barney Fife is watching.

Hah! Randy you wouldn't exactly be in the same boat, you'd be in a Hatt!

It is a crap shoot though, prices are all over the place for these and Hatts. We've looked at a few that we drove hundreds of miles to see, & left wondering "what were we thinking? Our boat's in way better shape than this" It is tough though to put something on the market that's been your pride and joy for close to 15 years, especially knowing you're getting a fraction of what you have in it out of it.

And now I'm trying to repeat the process! It is a sickness for sure, but we love it!

Nothing about being PC, just about being polite and respectful of another member.

Well, if it has served you that well for that long, why sell it? You'll never lose a dime on a boat that you don't sell for less than you paid for it. Yeah, think about that one a minute.

You're right about that! We've gotten to the point where we'd like more room, in living areas and staterooms, larger heads, a dinghy davit, diesels, and for me stand up engine rooms. Our future plans are to hopefully travel in it, maybe even the loop, or at least be able to go south for the winter if we want. That will be several years down the road but I'd like to get something now & get the bugs worked out of it before we embark on one of those adventures.

Nah man, you get the bugs worked out while you're making the trip. Haven't you learned anything on here?

Is this Egg still for sale?

Thanks

Yes it is. Currently on the hard, covered for winter storage. We closed on a Hatt 58 MY last month so I'm now a 2 boat owner. If you're interested, I'd be glad to talk with you or PM you more info.

Best,
Randy

I had two for nine months. It wasn't the fact I had two it was cleaning two. Just about killed me every weekend. Wishing you a quick close.

I sent you a PM with my contact info! Give me a call! Thanks! Cheers

Terrific! Thank you! I look forward to hearing from you!

Cheers

Well, now it's spring, time to move this boat! Always freshwater, covered slip, covered in the winter and it shows. This boat has been meticulously cared for, everything works, and has a ton of upgrades and improvements. Here is the link to the current listing:

If you're in the market for a boat of this size, before you buy something else come take a look, then make me an offer. Please feel free to PM or call me for more info.

Randy
