37298.webpI found this crack in my showerhead while pulling a turbo. Is it a problem? Its all under the hose.
 
Of course it's a problem. The real question is what's cracked, or about to be, or soon to be pin holes, that you can't see.
 
Based on the looks of the crack it's ancient... The metal looks to be in good enough shape I should be able to weld it back up. How much are new ones?
 
I think I'd replace it. Do a search on our site for marine exhaust systems, there are a number of reliable suppliers mentioned several times through the years.
 
Replace it and keep a close eye on the others.
 
Can you easily weld those? I had heard that they were made from some uncommon alloy that was difficult to match up for welding.
 
Everyone worries about the water leaking from the outer tube of the riser, at least that gives you a warning to repair/replace. The big big problem comes when water leaks from the outside water jacket into the hot exhaust side before the shower head then ending up in the motor, unfortunately water doesn't compress but connector rods do bend...
There's very hot gas on one side of the pipe and much cooler water on the other side, heat cycles and electrolysis eventually win. If getting new make sure to get them with the hard coat insulation.
