I have a friend/client thinking about purchasing a 70C and had a few questions about the draft. First, I've run a few of them and overall love the layout and performance of the boat. I wish I could have one for myself. My only concern is the same as my friends, "the potential buyer" and that is how much water the boat needs to float.
1. Does anyone know the ACTUAL Draft of the boat? In 1997 the original specs stated a 5' 4" Draft. Then as the years went on it increased to 5' 7" and if you look at the Brochure listed on this site it states 6' 1". When running the boats for owners/dealers I've been told same thing. No one has ever been able to give me a straight answer.
2. Is the different draft numbers because of Model Years changes, Power and Gear Options, or simply incorrect Specs posted by Hatteras Yachts. As far as Engines the only two options ever offered were CAT 3412E's and MTU 16V2000's
3. If the actual draft is a workable 5'4" I think he will look to buy one but if it's over 6' he can't. So if it's 6' 1" does anyone know if its possible to reduce that draft back near 5' with different gearing, and smaller wheels and struts without effecting performance. This is assuming the draft differences mentioned above are do to driveline and running gear set up and not spec printing errors.
If Hatteras built this same 70C boat and or the 82C/86C/90C with prop pockets and a 5' draft today with the 2600HP MTU 16V2000's I think they would be big sellers. They have the new GT70 but these with the aft deck boats are nice. You could call them a Yacht Fish Series.
Any help on this would be greatly appriciated.
Thanks
Tony.
