6v92 flush and fill

I am just doing my annual flush and fill on 6v92 in south florida. Been reading alot on past thread
concerning DD specifications.

Are there recommendations as to what to flush the fresh water side of these DD with.

As to filling these DD what would be the recommendation, should I use antifreeze as I really never see that freezing temperature in south florida.

These are 1987 6v92 DD Turbo.

Single, wet turbo or twin dry, and what HP rating?

In non-freezing environments on engines that are cooling capacity challenged (pretty much all of the twin dry turbo setups operating at 425HP and above, which is most of them) I prefer, and DD considers an approved option, distilled water as a fill with a proper inhibitor package (Fleetguard makes a SCA package that is approved for this use.) That provides a materially higher heat transfer capability than the usual 50/50 HD diesel coolant and water mixture. It is also safer for the environment if there is a spill as ethylene glycol is highly toxic (the SCAs aren't great either, but....)

For 6v92s, which are wet liner engines, use of an inhibitor package that controls cavitation erosion is mandatory.

The official DD options are DDC Powercool for a glycol-based coolant and distilled water; for distilled water only + inhibitors the Detroit "stuff" is called "Power Cool 3000."

Whichever choice you make get some test strips compatible with the chemistry you choose (strips from one manufacturer should not be used with a different manufacturer's chemistry unless listed as specifically compatible) and check every 3 months or so for proper levels, adding SCA if necessary.
