6v92 - different models

What is the difference between 6v92s with the following turbo setups and chronologically, how did they fall into order .... were any better or worse than others ? ........ thanks :

twin dry turbos
single dry turbo
single wet turbo

what is difference between the wet and he dry (and don't tell me moisture)

Until you get close to DDEC vintage 6v92s, you'll most commonly see twin dry turbos in 45c's. I know later they went to a single larger turbo, but I honestly never heard if it was wet or dry.

As for what's preferable? I asked my mechanic the same thing, and he really didn't think it much mattered. He certainly didn't think it made any sense to change over my twin setup to a big single, FWIW.

Wet indicates a water-cooled exhaust housing. Dry means you'll need those silver blankets.

It seems like the water jacketed turbos would be more likely to create higher coolant temps than a dry turbo. Maybe I don't quite understand the way they work, but if coolant is circulating around a red hot turbo, wouldn't that tend raise the operating temps over that of a dry turbo design? Some of these 92's are already marginal on cooling capacity. Plus, wet turbos mean more hoses and connections to potentially fail or maintain. It's also harder to change a turbo when they puke.
