6-92 Turbos

I have been offered 4 brand new (Not rebuilt) turbos for DD 6-92 engines. My question is what should they be worth and are there various models available for my engines. In other words how do I know they will work on my engines. I am thinking of buying them and keeping them as JIC (just in case) extra parts, but since I don't presently NEED them, how much should I pay for them.

I have a 1982 Series I 48 MY with 6-92 DDs. Each engine has two turbos and they are dry units.

I'am not sure what they are worth but I bought a new one 3yrs ago from Mi Turbo for a little over $900. I have the 892's with dry turbos.

I purchased 4 five years ago rebuilt and paid $450 ea with the old cores. Three of mine broke at the exhaust end with less than 1200 hrs. DD wanted something over $1200 for new ones. Hope this helps.

Watch out there is some after market stuff that is junk! I found out the hard way. I purchased 4 and all four blew up within 200 hours. A mess when you off shore black smoke by the buckets.
If you install them be sure to oil befor you bolt up.
Around the middle of 2009 there was a national shortage a lot of junk came in people were afraid there would be no more and there were a lot of imports (rebilts)around. I finally got mine from Covington marine in Beauford N.C. a D.D. distributor. I belive they were 700 each. Good luck Tim

He's looking to get about $2,000 for the lot, which seems ok if I needed them but they will spend (hopefully) most of their time on a shelf. Unless I get them for a genuine steel, I think I'll pass. Sometimes a bargain is really not a bargain. I appreciate alll your comments.....
