Hatteras Model
43' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1978 - 1983)
As a couple of you know, I've been working on my daughter's boat since the tragic loss of her husband back in April. I sea trialed it today after replacing the injectors in both engines (6-71ti). We pulled back into the slip and we're fine tuning the idle when the blower apparently seized up. So now I'm either looking for a rebuilt blower or having hers rebuilt. Seems to me that finding a rebuilt would be faster. Do any of you have a good source for one?

Bob
I am sorry your working under a not pleasant Issues,, I am sorry for your losses.

Please help me understand the blower sized?
The sacrificial blower shaft did not twist and fail?
There was a rotor collision?
Or did you mean the turbo sized?
What sent you to this conclusion?

Not trying to be a pain, just making sure I understand the picture and maybe I can help.

BTW, (IMO) DieselPro is a hit/or miss operation.
Many have been helped, Some (and I ) have been BOATed by them.
Another reason to ensure WE are looking at the correct failure.

It's not opened up yet. I'll know more when I do. I had a good dd mechanic working on it. We had just sea trialed it and pushed it a bit. Back in the slip he was tweaking the idle and something jammed up and belched smoke in the er. Now it doesn't want to crank over. He's fairly sure it's the blower. By then it was late in the day Sat and the engine was too hot to work on to verify. I'm heading offshore for a couple of days tomorrow so I can't check it out until I get back in

Look forward to your update.

Just woke up thinking; Would your engine have an emergency shut down flapper?
Would act just as you described.

Fingers crossed

Good point about the emergency shut down. That happened to the port 671. It had tripped where the cable connects to the engine. and was simple to reset.

I have experienced similar with the emergency flapper. One of the tell tale things is the way smoke comes back through the air silencer.

I wasn't in the er. I was outside bumping the start button, but the mechanic told me it wasn't cranking. We had the shutdown trip once before, and the engine would crank just fine

Right. If the engine won’t turn over the flappers not your problem. Given the symptoms wouldn’t the starter make sense? Either the gear is jammed or problem with the solenoid? So actually what about possible hydrolock? Since you had been running it the sudden seize may indicate water in the cylender. You could pull off a couple of airbox covers to see if water came out.

Thanks. Diesel pro has rebuilt units for 1300 or so.
