  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
41' TWIN CABIN (1965 - 1971)
I saw this pop up this morning at this reduced price. Listing says one of the 8v92's has a blown head gasket. She looks fairly good otherwise. Says that the price is firm and she is as is at that number. I have NO connection to this boat!

Blown head gasket?
Hum; It is rare to see a fire ring on a Detroit just to blow with out some help,, like water in the lung.

So, the diagnosis was not made by a real tech and i do not think it's going to be a cheap fix.
At least a head and one liner kit.

I agree. Add to that 4,000+ hours on the clocks on both.

Nothing is more expensive than a cheap boat.

Where is the listing ?

In some of the photos, she looks very nice. Still, if one engine is damaged, the other one might not be far behind.

??

If those are the Covington marinized engines, As we are learning, some hang-on parts are not available any more.

Stabilized 54, Wow.
Bow thruster.

If I only had $200k, I could go broke on this one.

Oh wait, just spent $35k on my 58 with even older engines and gear.
And she's not back together yet.

Logic??
Heck, it's a boat, pretty one at that, there is no logic involved here..

Perfect candidate for a repower.

It might, as you say, be easier to just bite the bullet and spring for a pair of M11s. Not cheap, but boy would you have a fine boat at the end of the process. No money, maybe, but a great boat.

Sounds like a potential deal for someone!

Maybe Randy can show me how to drive it with one motor?

Listing agent just emailed me back. It went pending Friday with no contingencies.

I heard the boat is really nice and the whaler is worth 10k alone. Engine problem is supposed to be the typical aging 92 cylinder seals leaking into the oil pan. Personally I’d pop the heads off reseal the liners and run it.

I resemble that comment! :p

The (literal) dollar I paid for mine only makes sense, in retrospect, if I'd scrapped it out.

I check on it on last week it under contract with few back ups. i been watching this boat. I was going to make nd offer with out seeing it but doing a survey . . I figured about $ 50,000 for rebuilds nd it would probably nice boat

Could you get the engines rebuilt for 50K? I wonder.

Here in Florida no problem if you educate yourself and know what really needs to be done. 99% of the horror stories are people who thr someone the keys and say call me when you’re done. Most of my friends are commercial and charter guys. You fix what’s broken and run it. People get oversold on jobs. And not to fault mechanics but but they are going to err on the side of covering their asses. And to be fair half these owners hav something done and the next day something completely unrelated breaks and they blame the mechanic so his cya option is to replace everything to be safe.
