53C Repower

Many Hatteras enthusiasts love details and numbers. A few weeks ago I was involved with a great repower of a 1975 Convertible. Originally launched with DD 12v-71s this highly loved old girl got her 3rd set of engines installed in Ft. Pierce FL. New engines are 13 Liter Scania 800hp engines with 2:1 ZF gears. the original shaft and prop was kept in the mix (30dx33p). Upon first start up and sea trial (see photo below) she was "light" at that time but was filled with fuel and water later and still made 28.5 knots WOT. This was one of the most pleasant rides I have taken. boat is smooth as silk, quick and efficient. I expect this package to last for decades for this beautiful Sport Fish Convertible.

That is the power package that I was considering to repower our 58 YF, but more in the 500 HP range, Those engine sre not overly electronic and they have a very good reputation in Europe. Good luck in your proyect

Who did the repower in FtPierce? I was just at Crackerboys and didn’t see a 53c they were repowering an old Monterey I think with IPS drives

These numbers are comparable to those obtained on a similar boat repowered with Cummins M11s at (I think) 670hp each.
