I use Cukote in the Chesapeake and the previous job lasted five years, hauling in the winter for 3-4 months. We just touch up the top of the waterline. On the metal parts, Barnacle Buster which works okay but not as good as Cukote.

Jim,
Any thought as to the ablative aspect not holding up to the regular 20+ knots? I had her painted at Cable in Lauderdale. Took her to Palm Beach. 3 weeks later I had lost two knots. Never got it back, never a clean bottom. Divers regularly reported all clean, but you can see the fur coat in the photos.

Last haul was Seahawk Cukote. I had growth within weeks, despite the amount of use. Was never able to maintain performance. First round was their export product, and I had no issues for 5 years.

Crew has the boat set up, and soda blasting commences Monday morning.

Cucoat is not an equivalent to micron 66. I'm on a very bad area for fouling and we only use micron 66 unless forced to use other ablative like ultima. No one here uses Cucoat more than once. It's not for this area.

If micron is applied correctly you should not have these issues. How my coats did they put on?

I'd need to revisit the invoicing, but my recollection was two coats atop the old SeaHawk.

Every SF I know of uses ablative paints and most of them cruise in the 30kt+ range

CuKote seems fine up here. It is not fine in FL, that's pretty evident. We have fouling up here, but not like you all do.

Here it stays clean, polishes itself, and no speed loss that I can tell.

I put the Cukote on in Florida. It fouled quickly. I brought the boat to the LI Sound, and I never could keep her clean.

I watch the club's yard haul boats throughout the year. I don't see a lot of success in limiting growth with any of the paints being used. Divers are in the marina daily. They have a terrific business model......

Yes, I had about the same type of growth on 2 years of the Cukote, a few less barnacles, more grass carpet.

You don't have the deep keel and soft chine...so that little bit of growth kills the 53c, steals 2-3 knots in a hurry.

The Cukote didn't work for me in SoFla, and it isn't working well in Long Island Sound.

Added a bit of cup in anticipation of improved performance.

Micron works well up here. Micron CSC or Extra are good. Micron 66 is best unless you are in brackish or fresh water.

Cleaning up nicely...

Sea trial after the haul, speed is back and she is topping at 28 knots, cruising at 24. I haven't seen that speed since the last haul, the last paint.

Off with the SeaHawk ablative, and on with the copper epoxy coating. Hard and smooth bottom is noticeably quicker through the water. The electronic engines are much more rapid to respond and dial up the turbo's. Terrific feeling to rediscover that performance.

Now let's see if this stuff retards the growth like it's reported to do. I feel like my downside is to simply haul again and coat with another bottom paint if it doesn't persuade the growth to go find another boat.

What a good feeling. Now need to provision and make another trip...

She's back in Florida. Two contracts cancelled due to inability of buyer's cash to materialize, another contract cancelled due to family health crisis...still looking for that real buyer to materialize.

Brought her back south, and headed to the paint barn. What a great boat, and what a great trip down....

Wish a C was what I was after.....

Very big part of me wishes I wasn't selling her. She is an incredible woman.

Sweetie wants a 53MY or larger..... And if sweetie likes the boat she'll come with me.
