53 convertable

Hard to say why, but I'll call Tom this week. I think that a lot of the updates were done over the last few years. Not sure what updates are recent and what was done by Tom. I'm sure it will require additional work/$$ to finish the job. Either way, it seems like a great deal.

My guess is that he basically owns the boat now as abandoned by the owner during the refit who paid for part of the work.

If so remember he's not trying to "get list"; he's trying to recover his ACTUAL MONEY IN on the deal, which is the not the same thing as "billed out" work.

Not even close.

"My cummins dealer says I should expect 10,000 hours before rebuild.."

I doubt that in a recreational marine environment. And it has nothing to do with Cummins, no disrespect there.

When engines are used a hundred or two hundred hours annually then sit around in a moisture laden salt water environment for thousands of hours annually, maybe for six months straight in freezing conditions, they don't have the running hour life of an engine used daily.

I was aboard a moderate size ferry in Maine, Tenants Harbor, when hauled...talked with the owner/operater/captain...he had over 20,000 hours on Volvo diesels!!!!!...hardly any maintenance except injectors, as I recall...still going strong...was used daily, six days a week almost all year round....that's what diesels were born to do.....same idea as in million mile truck applications.....

Scott,

I spoke to Tom this morning and would suggest you do the same, if this boat interest you. Sounds like a great opportunity to get a highly customized 53 at a very fair price.

I was on Al's boat last week, this is very nice looking 3 stateroom boat inside and out, it is on the short list of possible boats for us. Trying to decide on 2 or 3 staterooms, 892's vs 1271's, and old style vs. new style bridge.

Note: Hopefully there will be a 1978 37'c Hatteras available this coming spring!

Again, thanks for the help.

Scott,

OOPS! My bad, I forgot you'd asked if Al's boat was still available on the thread in boats for sale. Whenever I see somebody looking for a 53C, I just automatically mention Al's boat. No, I'm not getting a commission, but as you said it's a very nice boat that's priced right. Al told me he'd had a couple of people looking at his boat recently, but I didn't realize you were one of them.
