  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
41' CONVERTBLE-Series I (1964 - 1971)
Anyone have or had a 53 C with 892’s that can tell me cruise speed at 1950 and gph? Also have read that installing spray rails that continue from bow to stern will increase cruise speed by 2 knots. True or false?

True on the rails.

I'll ask a buddy who runs a 53 like that what the numbers are.

Were these made with 8-92s? I've lost track. I thought they all had 12-71s.

Later boats had 8v92s

RSmith has run a few and should have good info. Lift rails make a big difference but it’s crucial they are done right. Poor design and install can ruin the ride.

Would the lifting rails added help a 53 motor yacht cruise faster ?

Considering the difference in power between most 53 motoryachts and convertibles I'd think it can't hurt but may not do much to help

53’ 70k lbs and 435hp doesn’t add up to performance

Kind of like 35k lbs. 41 foot and 280 hp doesn't either. But maintain the bottom and keep her as lightly loaded as possible and you get 19 kts wot.

Man, these 41c's are so SLOW!

And fuel efficient.

23 gph at 17 kts

wasteful.....talk to me when you get about 1nmpg at 18knots.

i would not hold my berth for the call!

This does not relate to the post my 52C with 892 735 suppose to be hp. Will cruse at a honest 21 knots at 2000.
It burns about 50 to 52 GPH. That is with full water and fuel. As fuel goes away it will go a little faster. I have done everything possible to
make it as fast as possible. Whide open 2350 rpms clean bottom an heavy with fuel and NO tide you can see 28 knots. The weight loaded is about 32
tons. I would think the 53 is slower.

i dont plan on having it hauled by truck anytime in the near future.

Try .25 at 19.5kts or .20 at 23kts. I have 2 friends that own 42 Silvertons with 6CTAs. They get 1NMPG at 24KTs. Takes some fuel to push these heavy Hatts at a decent speed.

I'm near or at 1nmpg at 18knots. I need to confirm with better data...but floscans line up with the engine consumption curves.

I have a few sets of props to experiment with as well. But on the interwebs, people claim to get up to 1 knot improvement with Michigan DQX at same rpm/consumption. Also, here's real data going ACME CNC and huge improvements: http://www.thebassbarn.com/forum/6-...55242-38-henriques-huge-performance-gain.html

1-2 knots can be a big gain and pay for the cost of new props in short time if one racks up the hours.
