  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
41' CONVERTBLE-Series I (1964 - 1971)
My 52 Hatteras Convertible has a cockpit freezer built in. I’m pretty sure it’s origiinal with a separate compressor mounted in the engine room starboard side. Pretty sure compressors shot and will require replacement. Has anyone been through this and found a replacement unit? I think it’s a Frigibar but don’t really know for sure.

I pulled mine out and just put ice in it. I have a friend with a 60 that runs the crap tube from his ice machine into the freezer. Then shovels out into the fish box as it fills up. I plan to do the same one day.

I have the same boat, same problem. A refrigeration tech replaced the entire refrigeration unit
with a "modern" one. It did not reach the required temperatures. Searching for a cause I discovered
that the factory had not insulated the freezer box.
I removed the malfunctioning hardware and insulated the freezer box with expanding foam and now
put ice bags in it.
I am also looking for a permanent solution.

I"ve got an original Frigibar on my MY. The compressor went bad so I had the refrigeration guy swap it out. Works great!

My additional research indicates that the unit was made by Frigibar for Hatteras on the 52 C. The prices quoted to replace the condensing unit are excessive IMO. Doing more research as to replacement options from other manufacturers of condensing units. Built one for my old boats fish hold refrigeration chill plate when that one crapped out. The replacement was from a chest freezer about 5 cubic ft. I converted it to cool with sea water and it got so cold it made salt water slush ice. Cost with all new parts was less than 25% of quotes I’m getting now.

Here's pics of mine that is in my 1980 46C. I believe it's what powers the freezer that is on the deck on the starboard side of the boat. Is that unit you linked earlier compatible or do i need something different?
