Hatteras Model
43' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1978 - 1983)

Anyone familiar with this boat? Says its repowered in 2006 with Cat C9s. Curious about performance. Says 26 cruise 32 on the pins. Seems a little high for a 585hp engine (presuming that's what it is - ad doesn't say). I've called and left message twice and also emailed. Haven't gotten a response from the broker. Not a very informative ad. No engine hours. Very little detail re: electronics or genny. Limited (and sideways and upside down) pictures. I'm also seeing a 1990 45 with 3196 engines, also in Charleston. I'd consider driving down to see both, but need more info first.

Don’t know either boat, but willing to take a look if it’d help.

C9s might be fine. I would avoid 3196s. They did not have a great reputation for reliability- their presence reduces the value of any boat, I think. C9s might be okay if you got a serious engine survey from a tech knowledgeable about Cats.

That has to be one of the crappiest listings I've ever seen. Lousy photos, some upside down or sideways, no detail, poor lighting, no engine room photos of any worth. Thirty seconds of RAC time on that boat would tell you way more than that listing ever could. Pathetic.

Stay away from the 3196 boat. C9's are great a buddy with a charter boat just had his redone nearly 10000 hours and most everything was in spec still.........Pat

Thanks, Robert. I might take you up on that. Its a 13 hr drive from Ct to Charleston. Might be good to have an objective opinion ahead of the run. And Jim, that's pretty much how I felt. But I can't even get the guy to return a phone call or email, so it may be a moot point. That's why I was hoping that someone here might be familiar with her. She seems to have a light blue hull based on the photos, so that might be a clue. Good info too on the 3196 engines.

Bob,

Couple of things. If the hull is blue, I think I know something of the boat. There is supposedly a blue hulled 45C at Ross Marine here in town. Word is the boat is/was owned by one of the Ross principals, and that it has had extensive TLC. So, you might give Ross a call. Or, I can ask my diver; he does extensive work at Ross and knows all.

Of course, all of this would be quite the imposition given your poor performance with my lottery tickets last time.

Ouch. Otoh, I did sell the winning ticket. You just bought the wrong one.

Those are Slane Marine vents, on that boat, I think.

3196's are fine if the aftercoolers were updated.
