42 Lrc Stabilizers

has anyone put a set of stabilizers on a 42LRC

I saw an ad in Yachtworld last year for a 42 LRC with Niaid stabilizers. However, I recently read the updated version of Cruising Under Power updated by Jim Liechman (sp?) founder of Nordhavn, and he said that 8 knots is the minimum needed to effectively use fin stabilizers and recommends paravanes for boats that are slow.

Blue Water yachts in Hampton Va,. had a 42 listed for sale last year with stab. I new the first owner who put them on and he said they worked prertty well, better than not having them at all.

6 to 8 knots is PLENTY for Naiad stabilizers. They can size the fins for your typical cruising speed. I put them on our 53MY and love them.

Have them on a 43 DC. Work great at low speeds. Even at idle speeds of 4knots they are effective.

Have them on a 53MY. Work outstanding at 13 knots (cruise). I actually turn them off at high speeds (over 15 knots) - wouldn't want to tear them off or anything...

Naiad says they're good at 30 knots, so our boats can run at 18 fine. I love them on plane.

What size fins did you install? I have 4.5 sq ft fins, but another 53ED in our marina has the 6 sq ft on his. I was told that the smaller fins were better for planing hulls, but I was just curious as to what size yours were.

A friend of mine had Naiads on his 42LRC and they worked well. I was on a cruise on the boat through the Canadian Maritimes, and it was a contributing factor to my focusing on getting a Hatteras.

Roger, are you asking if anyone has done an after-market installation? Can't help you there.
