  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
Got someone who wants to buy a 48 LRC with 4-53 Detroits in it. I am only really familiar with the 71 and 92 series engines. Are these 53 series engines ok or are they going to be a problem. Thanks, John

Wet liners again like the 92s.
A little more finesse is required when running the racks.
A little more forgiving as a 92 but still not bomb proof like the 71s.

The ultimate Screamer.
The ultimate HP in a small package.
Will need reduction and rpm to load up on torque. At 1600 to 1800 rpm, they will last forever.

48 LRC with 4-53s should be a great package.

They are more than ok.

Louder than the 71's, use somewhat more fuel than four cycle engines, lighter weight transmission
than the 71's, ditto to Captain Ralph's comments, rated at 2,800 RPM. Only possible annoyance are the cork handhole
gaskets for accessing connecting rods which dry out. As soon as you see black exhaust smoke, you'll
know one has dried out, cover has slipped down and you need to replace the gasket and snug down
the cover plate again. Unfun when underway and engine is hot, but once you've done one it is short
work.

Thanks a lot for the info. John
