  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
1972 53my. Large 32volt macerator pump, motor and pump shot. Has 2 3/8's intake and discharge. Sits on top of holding tank in starboard head. Anyone suggest a replacement. Mechanic says not worth rebuilding, motor shot, bearings shot pump rusted. Looked around seems a lot of them available thought someone whos been down this road could suggest replacement. Thanks........Woody

Depco Pumps in Clearwater. They know more about pumps that the manufacturers themselves.

If that's the regular oem Galley Maid pump, it is totally rebuildable. It can be rebuilt by a company like Raz or you can do it yourself. All the parts are readily available. If you are putting in "modern" heads, then of course you won't need that pump anymore but if not, I'd rebuild it rather than buying something else. There have been several postings here of folks replacing the GM with a different pump and being less than happy with the results.

Is it just a macerator or is it the galley maid macerator and sea water pump combined?

Brian

if it's just a galley maid macerator and not the whole GM pump/macerator for the head, then replace it with a sealand macerator... they can run dry and are very reliable.

other wise GMs are worth rebuilding
