I can only find them in soft white at HD, Where did you buy them?

HD too. I must have soft white also. They also sell daylight and I haven't tried them.
 
Installed 60w Philips dimable found at HD $5.97. Worked great, but a little dimmer. 40w would not fire, 75w too dim.

Now how about the bayonet style in the heads and showers. Any ideas?

Our HD has GE bulbs now and they work great, put 100 watt bulbs daylight style in engine room and they work great. The Ecosmart bulbs at HD do not work. John

If you're after 1142 base bulbs the 12v 1142-x27-T-CAR works great for anchor and heads.The 12v 1142-x12-G-CAR is smaller and fits in our forward nav light.The 1142-x18-T-CAR proved to be not as bright as an incandescent 1142 bulb.I have not yet tried the 1142-x-45-T-CARhttps://www.superbrightleds.com/cat/tail-brake-turn/filter/Base_Type,1142,1,89:
 
I have not tried using the 120vac bulbs on a DC circuit. It is curious that it works on some boats but not the others.

A LED is a DC device and polarity matters. The ones that work with AC have internal circuitry that convert from AC to DC then reduce voltage to the LED working voltage.

A regular incandescent bulb does not care about polarity. You can wire it either way and it will work. I assume that these are all Edison style screw in bulbs? If you look in the socket, the center pin should be positive and the outside part with the threads should be negative.

I wonder if the boats that dont work are wired incorrectly for polarity? This can be checked with a voltmeter.
 
The Admiral would like to have "Blue" lights on our embarkation sides. Wondering if they even have an LED for old original style Hatteras to fit or do I need to change fixture out?

Top Hatt, thanks. I'll check into these fitting. Price not to bad. I thought my boarding fixtures were 32v for '72 Hatt?
 
I thought I would chime in on this old thread with my experience in using standard bulbs in my 32v sockets.

I tried about 10 different bulbs with very mixed results however I discovered a very reliable bulb that worked in every 32v fixture on my boat (at least 20). I have not had a single failure in 1.5 years, 70% live aboard. They are also just as bright as the standard 60w incandescent bulbs I replaced. I have also used them in my ER enclosed, sealed fixtures with no heat problems.

They are GE Reveal HD+ bulbs model number LED11DAV3RVL (570 lumens, 10.5W) & LED14DA21RVL (750 Lumens, 14W). They are a bit expensive but can be found on Amazon and Ebay cheaply some times or even on clearance racks. The 750 lumens work excellent but are hard to find and expensive.

I tried many, many different bulbs with less than spectacular results including all other reveal series bulbs and these outshined them all (pun intended).

I actually replaced all 120v and 32v bulbs on the boat and its all been working without a single failure. the bulbs work so well, it is actually not easy to differentiate which ones are on 32v and which ones are on 120v.
 
I am going to post a solution I found to this. I have been down this route with the Cree and Philips and it won't last and give dim light. I will put a new post up soon
 
Ok, I know this is an old thread, but...

I've ordered some LED's that are 24vdc (my lighting is all switched over at the panel) and they work great, however I can't get the square lens back on. The bulbs are A19 (standard?) size with the E26 edison base, which I would imaging is similar to the Cree's and GE's that you guys are using.

How did you guys get the lens to go back on (the square box fixture)? Seems like my bulbs are about 1/4" too large diameter. The old 32v bulbs that were in there (no wonder it was so dull inside) are about 2 1/8" diameter Anchor bulbs, but these are approx 2 3/8" diameter.

BTW, The new bulbs do fit the engine room lamps fixtures and are a huge improvement! Now I can see in the ER without needing 110v.
 
I didn't see a 24v version of that bulb, but I'll call them tomorrow. THanks
 
Marinebeam offers them with an outer lens similar to a standard bulb or without the lens which is much smaller in diameter.
