32 volt freshwater pump?

My water pump is a large 120 volt well pump with a small house-style accumulator tank. When I install the inverter I could inverter-power that big pump or add a smaller 32 volt pump in parallel in the water line. Thinking about something like this:

I've got the 2 pump setup for redundancy. You need a number of check valves to isolate the 2 pumps so they dont back flow or suck air if your going to share the same feed sorce. The problem I've had is the DC pumps pulse so its not a continuous flow. That hammers the check valves to death. We use the boat year round so our usage may be harder than others but I only get a couple years out of the checks before they start to leak or come apart internaly. I went to ball valves its a pita to go in the ER to switch over but it beats having the pumps screw up when your in the shower with a head full of soap.

If you still have it, the oem GM 32v FW pump works great and is easily rebuildable. I have never seen a need to downgrade my GM pump to a newer one!

But Jabsco makes a 32V pump - or at least they used to.

I can understand having a 120vac pump as a back up - though I wouldn't personally do it; I'd install a second 32v pump. But I have to admit I don't see any logic at all in having ONLY an 120v pump.

You might look at Groco FW pumps. They are not cheap, but they do make 32volt pumps, I am pretty sure, and they also make a combined 110-32 system, or they used to. I have had a Groco FW pump in my boat for years; it is rebuildable, very well made, and flows like crazy. Their service after sale is great, too.

I have a shallow well pump in tandem with a rebuilt Galley Maid 32v from Raz Marine. I don't have the issue noted with pounding. They share a common Wel- trol accumulator tank. It has never occurred to me to put the well pump on the inverter, as the 32v does just fine. Anyway I'd have to re-wire the well pump (easy) from 240 to 120. The PO had botched the install of the shallow well and conversion to a common accumulator tank, but I eventually got that all figured out with some help from Ozzie Raz and a helpful plumber. It's a very nice set up, and we have lived aboard at anchor or mooring for months at a time, so it has got a real work out.
