To all our Canadian friends....."Good Job"

Walt

I don't know if I'd give our Canadian friends an "attaboy" on this one.

Yes, it's good they stopped an incident, but come on - They let them go to terrorize another merchant ship?

One well placed naval shell could have retired 20 pirates.

I'll bet the newly reformed Blackwater Group could use some work...

Actually some of the commercial ships are running with armed private security on board. I don't know the high seas/maritime law, but I am not clear as to whether the ships crew can be armed or repel with arms.

Pirates are dumping their weapons before being captured that way there is no proof so they have to let them go. Therefore the shoot first rule should be used againn and again.

I know I'm going to catch hell for saying this, but I couldn't help but feeling sorry for that kid "pirate" who was shown on TV this morning. Maybe he would have killed somebody, maybe he wouldn't, but he looked to weigh about 90 LBS and couldn't keep from smiling. I think he was just happy to have been fed since he was captured.

There's nothing wrong with having a bit of compassion for this kid. He probably thinks that pirating was his only choice. No different from a kid who sells drugs because he feels he has no choice. Or a kid who steals because he feels he has no choice. But once you add a gun to the equation, the same "kids" will kill because they thought they had no choice. I'm sure most pirates start out not so bad but like most gang members, they'll learn to become more aggressive and violent. That kid is lucky he got caught before he got killed or killed someone else, if he hasn't already.

So there is nothing wrong about feeling compassion for him, but don't doubt that he would kill if he felt he needed to. The gun in his hand is not for self-defense.

I hear you Jack, but it was just the kid's demeanor that I noticed. He wasn't defiant or proud of his actions as is so often the case with these other types you mentioned.

The sad truth is, he'll have a better life in prison than he had outside it. That in itself could spell more problems for these US ships where pirates are concerned.

Randy there is never an excuse for piracy or killing. I do not subscribe to the "poor guy had no choice so he killed you". Just like the terrorist feel they must do things for their G-d. Blame the parents for teaching them the values and even having them when there is a shortage of food and work. People must be held accountable or they will act like animals.

I'm not making excuses for the kid or condoning acts of piracy, it just is what it is... sad. BTW, what is it with you and the G-d thing?

Ain't it kosher to type out God? :)
