If she laid on her side it would have only got 1 engine. Galveston Yacht Basin is only about a mile from the gulf and I think the water rose about 8' at that location. If the insurance company was paying they could have gone through both motors. Then again, they could have totaled the boat. Call the yard and ask, I'm sure they would tell you.

Its not just the engine. Salt water in the wiring and other systems is death to them. To believe some of the boat stayed dry so its OK is like believing your going to stay just a little pregnant.

Either way the broker who has it listed as a private sale is not being truthful.

I found some pictures of the boat that was being painted at the Galveston Yacht Service when Ike hit. I was wrong about it being a large C. It looks like a 53 MY or ED or a bigger MY.

I am pretty sure that Galveston Yacht Service ceased doing business at GYB after Ike. The owner also has the Payco Yard at the other end of the island. Someone there may know who sunk and where. This information should be fairly easy to find if you can contact someone at GYB at the time.

I do know that a couple of big C's sank or took on a lot of water on some of the GYB T-heads.

If it is the boat I remember that was posted a for a long time on Yacht World for $750K then yes, it was in rough shape. Interior was trashed, Salon Window was smashed out, there was extensive fiberglass damage and holes in the hull side around the rub rail engine room area of the boat and just generally looked beat up. It look as some have described as a boat that was on it's side, half sunk and being beat around. I wouldn't buy a sinker, I know how hard and expensive it is to keep all the systems of a straight, clean , non sinker boat working,,,, I couldn't imagine trying to care for one like this.

If the seller thinks he'll bully someone into a quick buy, or raise the price to $500K+ I think he's in for a rude awakening. A Fish Rigged NON Sinker 2001 70C just sold in AL for $640K. So I don't know how he thinks someone that can afford a $500K+ 70 Sinker couldn't bump up their budget $100K to get a boat in better condition. For the unsuspecting buyer this is the case of thinking your saving money buying a less expensive boat and spending Double to keep it running. Then forget about reselling it, unless you practically give it away.

When I saw it 5 years ago, the salon was gutted, the ER was trashed, the hull was repaired but still needed to be painted and all the cockpit hatches were missing. No doubt someone has spent a lot of time and money getting her to where she appears to be right now. The cost to rebuild those 16V2000s had to be significant.

I'm sure it was expensive. I just don't get it, why spend over $1 million as the ad states? When you can buy one ready to go that never sank for the same amount, or as I stated earlier, much less.

I guess when they bought it they were selling for much more and the owner probably thought he could fix this one for a lot less. When I bought my boat 4 years ago, a broker I know was trying to find a good 70C for under 1 mil. Most were in the 1.25-1.75 range

A lot of people that I knew collected full insurance coverage, bought it back from the insurance company and did some cheap patches and sold it again.
