While I agree with you guys that Tim needs a SF, I just wanted to add that I have fished just about every boat I have owned. Including a 50' Ocean Alexander Pilothouse Mk1 (1980). She ran on twin Ford Lehman 120hp!!! Basically a trawler with nice teak interior.
Top speed EVER was 12 knots with a 3 knot current and wind up the stern.
I was happy at 7 to 8 kn.
I put game poles on her to the amusement of all my fishing friends AND we caught plenty of tuna, Dolphin fish etc. Even hooked a few small blacks (marlin) but never got them to the boat. Hardest part of fishing her was standing up, she rolled so much, but was a safe boat.
Anyway Tim, you didn't rob a bank, win a lottery or inherit your $'s, you EARNED the privilege! and your girls seem like they have been BLESSED by your parenting, so go buy what makes you happy.......

You guys may be surprized how many fish you can catch with rubber band and paper clip drops off the the various bridge railings. You do need a cockpit and real rod holders, but can do quite well without the riggers especially if you run a zig zag. In the bay folks who want a large spread use planer boards for the drops, but not sure how they would work off shore - never tried them. Anyway, I think you can fish for fun using an LRC or any boat with a cockpit and do it pretty well unless you have to back down hard. If the catch is not your #1 priority (and max catch is not way ahead of the #2 priority) buy what suits you best and fish it as best you can. Maybe you need two Hats!

Good luck Paul, and thanks for all your great advice.

Regards, Bob K

unless you have to back down hard.

Backing down hard IS NOT in an LRC's vocabulary!!

The idea of two Hatts is very appealing. The idea of having to live alone on one is not!

I just got a message that Jabula (65 LRC) backed down on a 250lot lb.
Blue Marlin off The Dominican Republic a few days ago. Capt. Mike used to
run sf before the LRC gig. He specifically said Jabula backed down very well
despite small motors. They also caught magic and yellow fin tuna. The arrivedd
St. Martin 7 days out of Palm Beach.
And he will most likely find some low priced fuel near SA but
he still has enough to get back to FL.

You're right, he has plenty of range. About 2,500 miles I believe. That's the wonderful thing about our LRC's. Until we have to fill 'em up!! We use so little fuel each year that I now find myself only filling up when prices are depressed (kind of like Jabula in SA). Until then, I just run the tanks a little light. With 4 tanks totaling just shy of 2,400 gallons, we have the ability to kind of "play the oil futures"!

This is why Tim needs a SF.
