1980 53’ MY, black water overboard pump, was this standard equipment or add on?

Trying to locate pump/valves to empty/pump out my black water holding tanks overboard? Yes, 3 miles off shore as required.

Was this a standard option or add on?

Thank You!

Early on you could direct head output overboard or to the holding tank for pump out, there were no pumps to dump overboard. Not sure when Hatteras started installing them but I think it was later than 1980

In any case chances are the system was changed over 40+ years.

Do you have any breaker or switch for a macerator or overboard discharge? Look at the hoses coming out of the tanks and see if you find a pump

An overboard discharge is a must have for any Bahamas trips as there are very few pump outs

My 1981 has a macerator pump that is factory installed judging by the panel the control button for it is mounted on, that’s in the same material and font as the labels on the electric panels and upper helm. It’s located in the bow stateroom underfloor storage area.

If you haven’t got an overboard discharge pump on a 53 how do you install one

Depends on the tank. If you only have pick up at the top, you ll need to put a Y valve in the hose going to pump out deck fitting. From the Y valve you run a hose the pump and then overboard. If you have an old thru hull and sea cock you can use that or you can add an above waterline thur hull while in water

Personally I prefer having the discharge just above waterline so I removed the old TH during the repower.

When picking a pump, do not use the impeller macerator style like ITT Jabsco which will burn up if run dry. The best one is the sealand bellow pump.

Yep, it's already been macerated.

So I envision the Y valve at the top of the tanks or anywhere inline.

Going from the 1 1/2” hose/pump-out to a 1” over board thru hull, utilizing the
Existing thru-hull.

Do you have a model # on the Sealand Bellow pump by chance?

Sound Right?

This appears to be the recommended pump?
