I wonder if this boat was donated to them. More pics would be helpful.

No doubt. The problem is these cheap boats drag tha marketplace down.

We're talking 40+ year old boats. How expensive are they supposed to be?

That depends on the history, and whether everything works, or doesn't. I think there's a pretty wide price spread between the one which need restoration, and the ones that are truly ready to head offshore.

Mine falls into the ready to go offshore catagory. I have no idea what it is worth but probably not much. Maybe 125 in a good market? Detroit boats just don't go for much. But you get a lower entry price but then have to realize when you sell it it will be again at a lower price. Shame because after 6 years of ownership I have come to love Detroits rather than fear them. As for overall condition once it gets below a certain point it falls into the "free" catagory, regardless of asking price.

I think it is far more than just detroits +/-. There are scores or hundreds of peripheral systems on these boats. How new and serviced these systems are is perhaps a better measure of whether the boat has value or not. From soft goods to paint to electronics, down to what we might consider minor like quality hose clamps or the condition of a stuffing box or clean bilges. Plus a knowledgeable "yachtsman" will place a big premium on logbooks or records and apparent continual updating which I guarantee the majority of us have in spades. Is Jims W123 Mercedes a worthy comparison? Always a market for that car. Is the market smaller? yes, but always present. forgive the use of the term yachtman! Got to look around three stooges' style when that term is thrown at you.
