1972 58"YF forward fuel tank capacity?

Exactly what is the forward fuel tank capacity of the 58 YF? according to my Owners manual it says the capacity is 315 gallons.

I just finished refilling the fwd tank that was bone dry after having all the tanks emptied and cleaned. but to my surprise the FWD took 358 gallons! I'm stumped.

can anyone confirm exactly how much is the total capacity of the fwd tank from bone dry to full?

I'm starting to speculate that the owners manual stated fuel capacity is "useful fuel" and not total? but that would mean that the tank has about 43 gallons of unusable fuel?

My 53 MY has a plate on the fwd. tank that says 315.

It is very common for many gallons to be un-usable.
Pending who & when the pick-up tube was cut to length can also affect the usable fuel available.

OTOH; The plate should be correct in total volume.

Where was the fuel measured; Reputable truck or dock pump?

I have one of those 250 gallon plastic chemical tanks with the metal frame surrounding it. and quantity confirmed with the fuel pump meter at the gas station.

I have a 50c but I’ve run all 3 of my tanks dry multiple times on long runs and found each one usable fuel a fair amount less than the stated capacity. For example my FWD is 450 but 435 usable mid is 350 but only 313 usable and the aft 250 only 224 is usable. If you’re making long runs and counting on the endurance you need to run them down so you know
