  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
We have a 1972 53 MY with the air windhsield wipers. I really like them alot but the port does not work at all and the middle works intermittently. The starboard works well but all 3 need new blades. I have not been able to find new blades. Has anyone repaired or replaced all 3 with a new system? If you replaced them what system did you use and how well do you like it?

If you had them repaired whom did you use and are new wiper blades even possible for the original system?

Thanks for any input.

Joe

It depends on what DC power you have available. Mine (1978) were 32V electric and they worked great, but 32V are no longer available. SAMs has 12V replacements, so if you have a 12V system, or 32V with a big 12V transformer, go with the electric wipers. They're less expensive and very reliable.

Many trucks and buses had pneumatic wipers. They were once very common and new motors can still be found. Call Sams first as they know what is out there. If all else fails, check with some of the big truck parts places.

My 1972 53my had non-functioning wiper motors and no arms or blades. Rome trucking parts has everything you need. I got identical replacement motors from them for slightly more than they would have rebuilt my motors. Make sure to get the motor with the correct swing arc. It is printed on the original motor or they can figure it out for you with window dimensions. I sent them the dimensions of my windows and they told me the correct arm and blade sizes. I know my blades were 20 inches and think my arms were 22. The original Spague valves were not available and they provided replacement valves, although the anatomy was slightly different so I stuck with my original valves. Google Rome Truck Parts. They were excellent to work with.
