Hatteras 1510 Club Expands

The Hatteras 1510 Club has recently announced a name change to The Hatteras Classic Club. The hope is to broaden our membership to include owners and enthusiasts of all Hatteras Yachts. Not just those with a beam of 15’10’, a requirement of the previous club, hence the clubs name.
The Hatteras 1510 Club was formed September 2000 by eight members and quickly grew to seventy five. The club eventually reached to just under one hundred members worldwide.
Recently, however as more owners are either getting out of boating or moving in another direction, there are limited numbers of enthusiasts that are willing to devote the time and resources to restore or maintain these lovely vessels.
The club is widely known for its social events that the members enjoy. There is an annual national rendezvous held the weekend after Labor Day. This event is known for the “Boat Open House” where attendees may board the boats to exchange ideas and tips on rehab, maintenance and the like. There are also guest speakers on hand to provide information on restoring and maintaining Hatteras Yachts.
Additionally, throughout the year there is typically a winter rendezvous that is either a gathering of owners in Florida or a Caribbean cruise. There is even a Great Lakes region rendezvous held in the spring or early summer.
Now that the Club will be known as the “Hatteras Classic Club”, all owners and enthusiasts of all years and models of Hatteras Yachts are encouraged to join this exciting group.
Interested parties are encouraged to check out the website at www.hatterasclassicclub.com. While the club is in transition, the website will contain a combination of past rendezvous information, articles and newsletters as well as information about the new club’s mission and a membership application.

I kept putting viagra into the fuel tanks hoping my 14' beam would grow to 1510 so I could qualify...
Us 43' have feelings too.......

I just looked at the site. I noticed 2 things:

1) The information page says that this club is open on anyone who owns a Hatteras Motoryacht. What about the convertible guys?

2) I looked at the newsletter for information on the trip to Mackinac Island as that would be in my cruising area. To my surprise, I find that this trip is just a driving trip with hotel stays in Harbor Springs and on the island. What's up with that? I thought this was a boating club? Take your boat. IMO, that's the only way to stay at Mackinac Island.

All Hatteras Yachts, is how I read it. A rendezvous on the Chesapeake would be nice, too......

Go look on the website. Here is a direct cut/paste:

If they don't mean motoryachts, then maybe it should say Hatteras Yachts.

I think we should have a 43 club

I was at the meeting last fall where the name change was discussed and agreed upon. I'm sure it was not the intention of the group to discourage the sport fish folks. However, I will pass Sky's comments on to the club officers. There is a rendezvous every year on the Chesapeake. Last year's rendezvous was in Norfolk. This week they are on a Carribean cruise on that new Royal Carribean ship that's the largest in the world. Unfortunately my salon refit took all of my budget, so I'm staying home varnishing.

Taking a cruise on a cruise ship? Staying in hotels? Are you sure this is a boating club...

Staying home refitting your vessel, varnishing. My hats off to you Sir.

Its not a boating club. Its a boat ownership club. I think there are more of the motoryachts that put less than 20 hours a year running than you think. That does not include generator and inverter time, idling in the slip or trips to the fuel dock.

One of the principals in the club asked me to post the announcement, which I've done. Maybe if they get more members from this forum, they will do more boating- I certainly hope so, and if there's a Chesapeake meeting, I'll try hard to get there.

I can't imagine they'd throw me out, arriving with a convertible, but I've been thrown out of other places, so who knows......:)

I believe this year's rendezvous is in Baltimore, September 5-8. As previously stated the club is open to anyone with boating interest.

Hope to see you there, Jim and others.

I sent in the application and $125. yesterday. It will be interesting to see if they freak out when they figure out that I am a yacht broker. Who also happens to own a Classic Hatt.

Eric - glad to see you joined. I've been a member for about 3 years but so far only attended 1 rendezvous. Will plan to be at Baltimore this year. Hope to see you. The event a few years ago at Cambridge was a LOT of fun.

I can't join a yacht club since I can afford my 34 which according to the law of boating regulates it to being a boat. If the economy keeps holding me down it may be elevated to yacht status and then I can join. All kidding aside any group that brings all the classic and new model owners together for Hatteras is good by me. Will check out the website.

As the article states, we are open to anyone with an interest in boating as well as owners of Hatteras boats. I knew when I asked to have this article posted, we would get a whole host of comments. Thats great! Folks are reading the forums! I will have our web site person take a look at the wording and make it more understandable. As far as the comments about boating, driving, staying in hotels and using cruise ships, I think you need to look at the group and realize we are doing anything to keep Hatteras enthusiasts involved. The cruise ship over the winter is because members still enjoy getting together over the winter in a warmer climate. There are not enough boats however in the area to justify a boat rendezvous. The same applies to the great lakes rendezvous. In years past they were both cruising events. But not enough members brought their boats in recent years. I think it speaks volumes for the dedicated members that are left to continue to promote the Hatteras name and to keep enthusiasts together and to try to grow the membership. Just like we have no requirement of boat ownership or style, we also do not have a requirement as to how many hours a year you use your boat. To those of you that the ecomomy or fuel prices have not affected your use of your boat, great! I personally look at our hour meter at the end of each season and think "Next year we are going to use our boat more!" Whether we do or not doesnt change the fact that being a member of the Hatteras Classic Club is never a question. The information and comradery that comes from this club in invaluable whether we ever turn the key or not! So in closing, if joining the club is not your thing or the group of people is not to your standards, so be it. I just don't think it is fair to degrade a group that is simply trying to bring enthusiasts together for the benefit of the brand.

Ben, Point well taken. Boating is only 2% of ownership anyway. 98% is taking care of our beautiful boats. As my wife and I sat on our sundeck this evening, warm and toasty drinking a glass of tea it is easy to forget about the cold weather up North. I couldnt imagine living in a freezer for months at the time. Sams marine and the HOF has been a priceless tool. I've been living aboard for a little over two years and still have many things to learn. The HOF forum would be worth a price to join. I really cant justify $ 125 to join a club. I bet yall have some fun though. Good Luck guys.

Wow! I'm not really sure that I understand what you mean. I may perhaps need to re-read this part of your post in the morning when I may be more clear headed.

The 1510 clubs as I have always understood it was for 1510 owners, in fact one member told me quote "too bad you don't have a 1510 so you could join. Perhaps my impression it has always been an exclusive club is incorrect. It seems like the membership has fallen off, so now the club wants to let everyone in. In reality this site is pretty much a classic forum.

I question why the author of the above post who, by his signature is speaking in behalf of that Club, would seem to be testy and defensive. It would be obvious to anyone who visits this forum that a promo post on this site for anything would bring questions and criticism. I understand the efforts to try to keep a club alive. I belong to another yacht club that a few years ago expanded it's membership parameters for the very same reason. I get that. It is my opinion that if you're trying to promote membership growth it's probably important to remain upbeat and positive.

I filled out and mailed an application and check to join the Classic Hatteras Club last Saturday when I first read this posting. I now fear that my action was perhaps a bit hasty. I already have my "quota of one" club membership that has it's own peculiar share of drama, I really don't need another.

His response is pretty much indicative of the attitude the 1510 has always demonstrated. They started an exclusive club and it appears to be going down, now they want to try and save it. At $125.00 a year the club offers very little, a BoatUS membership is cheaper I think. IMHO thats a lot of money for a burgee and access to the site. There are tons of free sites out there.
