It seems like a higher loop would just keep more water from exiting and you would have more coming back down the hose and sloshing back into that little space.

You could add a time delay relay. Would it still come on from the water that comes back down the pipe or is it just the sloshing? If just the sloshing, you could move the float or add the time delay...

On a Hatteras? I doubt it. I've never seen a broken or bent stantion on one that wasn't storm damaged or otherwise abused.

I once heard it said that GalleyMaid stole the plans from Ideal and made some minor changes. They are very similar in build so I could believe such a story.

There is also an MDL4 takeout at Crosswinds Marine in Whitehall, MI sitting on the shop floor. Many of the parts on it are gone but the flywheel/ring gear may still be there. You could try calling them.
