DD Mechanic Recommendation for Stuart/Port St. Lucie, FL???

Would anyone be able to recommend a good DD mechanic for my area? I'm feeling a 'miss-fire' kind of thing and the engine is putting a little soft soot on the transom. Injector(s)?? 6V92TA 425 HP. Bobk PS, Just returned from a ten day trip to Miami... 210 NM, 167 gal of fuel, several nights on...

    Southbound In January: Biscayne Bay

Gayle and I hope to spend ten+/- days cruising from Port St. Lucie to Biscaye Bay starting about January 8. We expect to stop at New River (Cooleys) and Boca Chita for a day or two. Other suggestions? Cultural events? Anything Hatteras going on in the area at that time? Bobk Chateau de Mer...

Ideas Needed for Re-sealing Pulpit and Fore Deck

The pulpit came up cleanly. See pictures. The specks are splinters from the block of plywood in the center. This appears to be a Hatteras installation. The screws in the plywood are all bronze Robertsons. Core damage is quite limited. The reason for these issues is the original design. 1, there...

Ideas Needed for Re-sealing Pulpit and Fore Deck

On the way south this year we spent a few hours beating into 4'+ waves on the Chesapeake. We found water on the floor in the forward cabin and this led me to check the anchor chain and rope lockers. The bolts for the anchor chute and pulpit fastenings had water drips on them suggesting leaks. I...

    Mechanical Temperature Gage

On the trip to Florida the mechanical temperature gage for the port engine ceased to produce a reading. How does one go about diagnosing which part of the system needs reapir? Or do I just change the sender and gage? Where to buy it? Advanced Auto, Napa, Grainger? I hate to say it, but there...

    In-Line Water Strainer Problem?

Recently the Shurflo Extreem fresh water pump has been erratic, sometimes not building up pressure and not shutting down. In looking for the cause I noticed the water level in the in-line strainer before the pump is much lower than normal (compare water level lower right of strainer to stain...

    Inverter/House Bank Question

I have a 2.5 KW Victron Inverter/Charger (2006) and a house bank of 6 Workaholic golf cart batteries, also 2006. I checked the bank with a hydrometer and topped up the water in September and and all looked good, but on the trip south I noticed the charge function seemed to be faster and then...

    Cruisair Blower source??

Here is some follow-up. First it is an EBO-7. Stock # 13107010, serial # B15014. Access looks easy. See picture. Mike, is there some special technique to removing the squirel cage or can the bearings or bushings be accessed while it is still assembled? All input appreciated guys. I have...

    Cruisair Blower source??

The blower assembley on my forward AC (5000 BTU) is noisy. A friend who is in marine AC repair says the new part lists for $595 but he can get me a good discount. He also said the motor only could be had for around $60 from Grainger but it is a real PITA to change out. Has anyone found a source...

Hart Tank Tender Causes Fuel Leak

I gave it away in the title, but thought I'd post this problem in case some one else runs into it. I've been chasing a mysterious intermittent fuel leak for almost a year. It would appear after refuelling and initially showed up on the battery shelf in front of the starboard engine. We were...

    Heading South in September

We will start south after the MTOA rendezvous in Cambridge. It'll be a slow and easy trip because my insurance keeps me north of Cape Hatteras until November 1. Hope to see some of you along the way. Pascal, when do you start south? I look forward to your navigational observations again. Bobk...

Starter or Battery Problem?.. Help Needed Again

 Engines are 6V92's 425 HP on a 1981 48MY. About a month ago I started noticing a larger voltage drop when starting the starboard engine, and sometimes a real slow cranking. I assumed the 8D's were loosing it again, but they are not yet three years old. Furthermore two 8D's are wired...

    Fuel Manifold Valve Leaks, Repair?

The starboard fuel return valve on the fuel manifold is leaking again. I had them all reconditioned by lapping a few years ago. Boat is a 1981 48MY, twin 692's. Are these valves replaceable, or do I need to go the recondition route again? The mech in Florida who did the job said they had tapered...

Access to forward fuel fill hose??

Does anyone know how to access the compartment that the forward fuel fill hose and vent line run through on a series I 48MY? We suspect the fill hose is leaking and since it is not original, it has been changed one before, but neither I nor a good local mechanic can see how to get to it. Each...

    Deck Shoes

Has anyone found a deck shoe with soles that don't get hard and slippery? My Sperry Topsiders last maybe two years and generally show almost no wear, but lose the non-slip characteristic? Alternatively, how about a recommendation for re-soling them? Bob

Plugging holes in stanchions? Ideas please.

I'm having new dodger boards made for the sundeck on Chateau de Mer. After removing the old boards, we found very large holes in the SS stanchions where large aluminum rivets had been used to attach the dodger boards. We'd like to keep the hole spacing but use smaller machine screws to fasten...

    The Classification has changed

I just bought Delo 100 40 weight for the 92's and see the CF-2 classification is missing on the jugs.. It is simply CF now, but says it is recommended for 53's, 71's, and 92's. Would you use it? The web page which was updated last month still shows CF and CF-2. Bob

    Masking Wallpaper

OK, I just sanded down the teak frame for the master shower. The outside wall still has the original Hatteras vinyl wallpaper that resembles grass cloth. Has anyone found a way to mask the teak to paper joint that will keep the finish from wicking onto the wallpaper? Bob
