Boys Harbor (3 mile harbor) fireworks

Well ... I journeyed up from FLA to Sag to hang with some friends and we went over to 3 mile harbor saturday night for the annual Boys Harbor (sponsor, not location) fireworks. Fireworks were great, but where were all of the boats? Four of us went on a friends 22' center console, so that we could bounce around and say hi to folks we knew. The place was half empty. There are usually a ton of boats fron Ct. and it's usually so many boats that folks stay over just to avoid the traffic jam. Well, there were almost as many law enforcement boats as civilians.
I gotta think it's the fuel thang .... sad !

Boating has slowed WAAAY down in Southern New Engand. My marina slip mate just came back from a 2 week circuit of Greenport, Montauk, Block Island and Newport. Empty slips everywhere, even July 4th weekend.

Greenport town docks were friggin railed on the weekend of the 4th even claudios was packed with boats. I know alot of people I know opted out on takin thier boats to block though because of gas prices, they jumped a ferry and stayed with friends.

Hey Steve, sorry we missed you. We were up the Ct River in Essex for the weekend and the river traffic was way down and the marina we were at was mostly empty of transients.

One good thing though, the river traffic was much slower. More boats are putting along and enjoying the ride and scenery rather than powering up to planing speeds outside of the no wake zones.

Well, time will tell.

We went to Monroe Harbor for the Chicago fireworks, and it was LOADED with boats, and more than 100 boats out in Lake Michigan outside the harbor after they shut down the harbor entrance for the fireworks. BTW - The fireworks was AWESOME!

I could not make it this year but I know Brace with Glory B 41 Hatt & Mark with Bandit 34C where there. Are you still around If so come of to Ct this weekend.

I did get a bonus this Saturday got out ot the boat around 9 pm and sortly afterwards had fireworks over on Shelter Island. I was able to see them from my cockpit and it was a great show!

I'll be up, but won't really have crew and my 13 whaler is a bit "uncomfy" for a trip of that magnitude. But still, one never knows.

Boy's Harbor is no longer...the trust was liquidated 2 years ago, and the assets were sold off or donated.
This years fireworks display was sponsored by a group called "Friends of the Amistad"

You should have taken up Bruce on his offer .....we had the best seat in the house - closest boats in the harbor to the barge, and the best company, Of Course!!

That's very gracious of you Mark . My mooring is the best seat in the house ,isn't it ? And you are right the company was wonderful all the way round . Over all it was a lovely time ,thanks to all who attended .

I caught the 3 mile harbor fireworks ... I didn't catch the rendevouz. The invite wa for the trip to Ct. and I couldn't do an overnite, becaue of other commitments.
I do/did appreciate the invite.
