  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
40' DOUBLE CABIN-Series I (1986 - 1989)
I'm in the middle of having the risers changed on my Crusader 454 engines. They have 12" risers on them and Crusader no longer makes them. The yard is putting an 8" and a 4" together to get the needed height, but because of the offset one of them hits the stairs to the master. Now I'm stuck trying to find one original riser to complete the job. I've tried Sam's and several suppliers with no luck. Does anybody have a suggestion on what I can do now? The riser has a # 1106 stamped on it. Ron

Aftermarket. OSCO

I bought all my Crusader risers from: http://www.ebasicpower.com/

But I have to admit I don't recall ever seeing 12" risers - 8" was the longest I remember but perhaps they have them.

Thanks guys for the suggestions but I couldn"t locate the risers anywhere. Crusader stopped making them about 10 years ago and nobody else made them. My marina personel suggested replacing the manifolds to the new style center out model and new risers. They're top of the line mechanics so I'm sure it will work out. They said my old risers were original and ready to go. Wow, 20 years on the same risers and in salt water Too. Was I lucky. Ron

Ron, I replaced my risers 5 yrs ago with oem stuff. Guess maybe it was leftover parts at that time however no problems getting them then.

Skip, You probably got the last ones. Ron

We have those risers on our 36 Hat. They call them 12" dogbones. They also have an elbow after them that the 4" rubber exhaust hose attaches to. I hope you find them as Ours have been in salt water for 11/2 years and will need changing someday.:(

Ron, got your phone message late last night then forgot to bring your number to work. City Island yacht sales, City Island N.Y. did mine. 718 885 2300. Have no idea if they still have them available however it's worth a try.

Given any choice at all, I would avoid the center riser retrofit. When a center riser goes bad, it dumps sea water right down in the middle of the engine. When an end riser fails, it usually doesn't do too much damage if you catch it quickly. Changing that set up will also likely require a fair amount of reconfig on your exhaust hoses.

Thanks for the warning Seaeric, but I don't have a choice in the matter. I'll just have to keep a vigilant eye on them. At my age I don't know what's going to fail first ,the risers or me. Ron

Heh, I hear what you're saying! Between the prospects of someday having to move to an electric boat (or God forbid sail) and having to have a permit to pump the bilge, I'm glad that I'm old and can almost see to the horizon on my boating days!
