Salon AC evaporator solution

One of two blower motors in my the salon overhead ac unit, above lower station helm, started to scream (bearings) after a mere 36 years of faithful service. Now that I have managed to remove it, I have a few questions for the group:

1. Does anyone have a source for a new blower motor (near impossible to find a 1/12 hp 230v motor in this frame size) - I'll post a pic of the motor label in the next post. Old motor is at a shop to see if it can be rebuilt, at least the bearings, but having two new replacements would be helpful.

2. What solutions or mediocre ideas have people used to replace the overhead evaporator coil/blower assembly with something decidedly non-Dometic? Condenser skid is ~8 years old and I don't want to replace that. Current Evaporator coils and blowers (two each) assembly is a sealed box with original near zero room for anything else or any mods so a replacement is inevitable. I don't know if this helps but between Amazon and Grainger I was able to cross-reference blower motors and replace my engine room blowers with new motors/blowers (just in time for Ian to smash the boat of course).

This may give you a starting point - I found a cross-reference list for Dayton blowers but now of course I can't find it again. I used Dayton info on Amazon and Ebay to track down comparable equipment. Of course, Grainger prices were insane so I just used them to figure out what I needed on other sites. I know this may not be the one you need...

Using the info obtained from a supplier willing to post all of this online and then shopping it to the low-ball supplier is just wrong IMO. I buy from the place that provides the information to me. We need to support those that do things the right way. Just like supporting Sam's Marine when they have what you need.

I get some of what you are saying but sometimes you have to dig in and do the research on your own. As a former service manager, who fought on a daily basis with a parts department more concerned with their OTC sales than supporting the shop technicians I learned to be self-sufficient in parts research and sourcing. Prior to that in the Coast Guard, we had to do our own research and sourcing on a regular basis especially for more esoteric items. I'd prefer Dayton motors/blowers over a more generic source, but I also wanted to find a source at all other than Crusair/Dometic.

Thanks for the support - close but not a usable replacements - the grainger one has nameplate rpm that is <80% of rated RPM and I need it to match. Second one is too big. But thanks for looking.

I used the specs as a search criteria and found blowers that way also. I used the GE number and voltage to find possibles, and came up with the ones I posted. There are a lot of possibles.

Try boolean search with 'and' separating criteria.

Thanks JuiceClark- I will have to dig in this way now. Motor re-wind shop couldn't find proper bearings nor could they find a replacement through a quick generic search. I'll spend some time on Ebay after I get the motor back tomorrow and have detailed dimensions. Thanks again.

JuiceClark is not kidding and definitely right. I found new starter solenoids for my 8V's on eBay for $40 each.

I have got every electric motor I ever needed in a variety of voltages from Grainger. While their catalogue can be bewildering at times, there's like a 90% chance that if it's an electric motor they've got a direct replacement. The reps can search by individual specs unlike the website.

I will say you're on the right track with keeping your original units running, I wouldn't have any of the current planned-obsolescence crap they make now, with proprietary circuit boards that cost 5 figures and subpar construction, you only get a few years out of them before you have to replace them again. Aside from minor maintenance the stuff that came with the boat just keeps going, and going, and going.

If you're going to keep going this route, a year or two ago they changed the freon standards again and the new law requires the phaseout of R22, go on facebook marketplace and get yourself a 20 pound jug while it's still cheap'ish and it'll last you forever.
