45' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1968 - 1975)
A couple pages from a 1974 Defender catalog I came across. When my dad got the Ray Jefferson 520 depth sounder I held my head a little higher walking past the brand new 48 uniflite, I was around 10 years old ha. We also had some version of RDF, I was told never to touch it and I never did. Radar back then was just a bridge too far. Looks like defender and j c Whitney had the same catalog designer

Such antiques. It’s amazing how far we’ve come in boating.

I remember helping my dad build a Heathkit digital depth sounder in 1975. It was pretty cool to see the depth in numbers instead of a glowing dot on a circular scale readout.;)

Really really liked Defender Marine and used them a ton for decades, then the founder dies, the kids sell out to PE and it all goes to crap. Unfortunately this scenario happens way too much these days.

I could waste a few hours with a JC Whitney catalog, something about feeling paper on your fingers.

Always a must on camping trips too.

Defender Industries used to be in my hometown of New Rochelle, NY before they moved to Ct. Starting in 1971 my dad bought his boats in the fall. He would then make a giant list of things he needed to buy to outfit it. Then off to Defenders to speak to a guy named Willie to place the order so it would all be delivered in the Spring for my dad to install all of it. When I bought my boat in 2013 it turned out that Willie had just retired. They are still a great store and customer service is great as well.
