  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)

Like many of us, I get into periods of looking around at boats for sale, houses for sale, etc... In one of those periods now, probably because the boat has been on land for 2 weeks now.

Anyway, two curious things about this boat, to me...

1 - 2001 6-71 turbo repower?

A few years ago there was a 53ED that was repowered with John Deere engines and was the subject of some posts on here. I think because those engines were modern at least, that was a positive. Also, I actually was on that boat when it was up my way in Waterford, and there was a lot of engine room space. Also a positive!

However, this boat would have originally had 8-71 turbos, or would it have had naturals in 1971?

Curious whether anyone thinks the 6-71 repower is a good thing for this boat?

2 - Something I never really see much mention of on here, but this boat is one of the early ones that has essentially only one shower stall on a boat with 6 berths. When did they start making them with individual shower stalls? Also, is it as annoying as I would think it would be to have that split shower arrangement?

That listing is full of mistakes… 2x250 USG alum fuel tanks??? Plastic water tank ? 400hp per engine? And more. Another clueless broker.

The early 53s had two shower not one. One in the forward head and one shared by the two aft heads; I think that lasted till 1974. It was not a bad set up as it gave more room in the heads and the shower.

No info on where the 6-71 came from. They sure were not new back in 2001… so rebuilt by god knows who.

The listings are always a mess.

Do the first 53s have a wet head for the fwd cabin? And a shared stall for the VIP and Master?

That boat, like many, looks like there was a period where it was being kept well, and a period it hasn't.

Crazy. Making a slow boat even slower.

Would have had naturals when new, or Cummins 903s, maybe.

Yes, wet head fwd and shared shower stall in the early 53s. My 1970 had that.

Early 53s had naturals. Then starting in 71 or 72 more and more got the TIs

Probably doesn’t have 6-71 engines .

Well, 6-71TIs would have more power than 8-71Ns, no?

It looks like the bridge ladder is on the port side.
The Bridge deck extension looks great.
