  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
41' DOUBLE CABIN (1962 - 1965)
Certainly seems to be the case. No doubt most of the HOF’ers Ive exchanged with on here since 2006 have become Facebook friends, and there are several Hatteras groups on Facebook.

Not trying to take anything away from the HOF, of course, as it has been an invaluable asset for a very long time. Just wondering. Maybe some just thrive on anonymity, but I never tried/understood that myself.

Again, just curious.

Seems to be most of the chatting back/forth has moved over there. This is still where I come if I need actual information about my boat or how to fix something though. I think would be more accurate to say the social side of it has moved to Facebook. The informational part is still here.

I know you participate on both, and I agree to an extent. Lots of technical exchanges take place on the FB groups without certain anonymous egos taking part in the process.

I spoke recently with a longtime MIA HOF’er the other day who was very much a part of the technical side of the forum. Here was his take…

“I haven’t been on the HOF in a long time as the vibe there changed from dedicated Hatt enthusiasts to people buying those old boats cheap and not interested in restoring, updating or maintaining them the way they should be.”

Add this to personal vendettas against one extremely knowledgeable and helpful member in particular, and the picture becomes more clear as to why quality participation has gone elsewhere.

Absolutely disagree 100%. This forum is for people that are interested in sharing and maintaining their vessels to a high standard. Just look at the quality of the tech info shared. I think cww hit it on the head. Chit chat, and there’s certainly nothing wrong with that, fits the FB platform. This is a forum for discussion all things Hatteras. That’s the difference in my view. Also, the incredible encyclopedic level of information here will never be the same on a FB platform.

I can't comment about FB because I don't have a FB account. But from the numbers, it sure looks like this site gets plenty of activity:

Who's Online

10 members and 1839 guests

Most users ever online was 5288, 03-03-2024 at 02:59 PM.

For better or worse you’re stuck with me here. I have zero interest in zuck and his fb site, regardless of what’s on it.

I proudly earned my Facebook lifetime ban in 2019. I use this forum extensively to see what's going on, weigh in if I genuinely believe I have something of value to add, and to communicate with other members. I believe this forum is valuable and more focussed than anything FB can do, and am deeply grateful for the camaraderie and support I received after losing Pau Hana to Ian, and firmly believe that if a member on here winds up in the Ft Myers area and needs assistance, or just wants a good adult beverage, I would be flattered to assist.

Facebook is not anything I need .. I have had every questions I have ever asked here correctly answered in short order. Thank you everybody that uses this forum. I sure ain't no old salt but I'll give my .02cents when I can.

This site is where the pros come. FB is for rookies.

Sometimes we complain about the search function or whatever else about this site…

But, try to search fb groups info like you can on this site.

Also, all the other forums are so full of ads and things…

Hopefully “she holds”..!

What's Facebook? :)

What is this book face being talked about?

Zero interest in Facebook

I don't do MyFace either, but I wonder if this isn't a generational thing. Is the younger demographic of new Hatt owners more drawn to that than conventional forums?

I just turned 46, am I young or old- I do not know. Lifelong boater and prospective Hatteras owner. This and other forums are a goldmine of useful information. I check in here daily. I am on bookface but only for business purposes.

I love this place and appreciate all of the info shared, thanks to you all!

I participate in both and NO WAY I would consider FB group my go to for knowledge or guidance. Now if you're looking to blow money on Over-priced Hatteras Brochures, FB is the place

The big downside of FB, besides the ads and crap, is that it’s very difficult to search a group and it’s a pita to get back to a specific thread. No competition for HOF

And yes, l can’t stand sucksberg and his ultra liberal meddling. That said, FB gives easy access to a variety of interest news which would otherwise require visiting a dozen websites

Proud to say this is my only 'social media' site for past 21 years. Perhaps that's why I slum around here as often as I do :)

+1 on the search function making this such a goldmine. The longer this site goes the more of a treasure trove of info it is. My 67’ Hatteras is the first boat I’ve ever owned. 6 years of living aboard and enjoying with my fam would not have been possible without the knowledge here. The same can not be said for fb.
