2024 hurricane season final act heating up ?

The middle part of hurricane season, the Cape Verde season, has been a dud so far but it looks like the final act could be heating up with stuff brewing in the western carib and being pulled by fronts up into the gulf.

Most models have converged on Helene forming in the next couple days and eventually becoming a hurricane making landfall somewhere along the NE gulf coast like panhandle or big bend late into next week.

I know whey the season has been so quiet...it's because for the first time in 6 years, I decided to haul the boat to balance a number of commitments I had this Sept/Oct! All quiet in the Atlantic - you're all welcome! haha

The sudden eruption in the NW Caribbean/SW Gulf is giving me a bad flashback. 2 years ago the 28th Ian struck Ft Myers as a 4, later reclassed as a 5, destroying every marina in the area and taking Pau Hana with it. The unwanted secondary gut punch was that my birthday is the 29th.

We are finally getting things like traffic lights and signage cleaned up but Legacy Harbor still has sunken boats. Nothing moving at the FM Yacht Basin.

The sudden eruption in the NW Caribbean/SW Gulf is giving me a bad flashback. 2 years ago the 28th Ian struck Ft Myers as a 4, later reclassed as a 5, destroying every marina in the area and taking Pau Hana with it. The unwanted secondary gut punch was that my birthday is the 29th.

I understand they’re upgrading it for insurance purposes. I flew the first relief flights into Homestead after Andrew There is just no comparison. Everything was leveled like a nuclear bomb blast. Even the National Hurricane center was obliterated. Ian was all about the surge not the wind. The west coast and gulf are far more susceptible to huge surges due to the shallow water.

I never understood people who obsess about birthdays. We did nothing. We accomplished nothing. Its the day that we were born. We had nothing to do with it. Why is it to be celebrated? I'd rather celebrate a nice wax job on the boat.

I thought surge was due more to the rotation of the storm. For example, Irma passed South or almost head on into Fort Myers. We had a blow out tide that left boats sitting on the bottom. But Ian, while certainly much stronger, passed just North of Fort Myers, and wow did we get surge. I also think about geography and how the river deltas and broadening of the rivers act like funnels to push the surge in and farther up but the beach was completely swept over.
